SCHWARZ, Otto; DEU > USA; anytime Otto SCHWARZ: It is not kow for sure when he came to America. On his grave there is a GAR marker which would meant that he had served in the Civil War. To date, I have found nothing to prove that theory. Other family members say that he came to America in 1880 by himself and called for his wife and children to come once he had made a home for them and had work for himself. In Germany he was a blacksmith and family rumor has it that he melted different metals down and forged his own coins to pay for passage to America. I cannot find any information in the courthouse in Medford, WI, where he lived his whole life. There are no sirviving censuses that would tell me when he lived in the area. I have nothing other then his birthdate : 9/15/1835 and his death date : 3/27/1897. No information on his parents. Theory of mine is that he was hiding out from authorities because he was infear of being caught for forging his own coins in Germany. He did work as a blacksmith and farmer in Medford, WI. The funeral records for him are missing. No obituary in the newspaper, and to date, no military records have been found on him. ANY information on him will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
