LAUMER, Anthony / HAZEL, Catherine; BAY,DEU> St. Mary's, PA,USA; c. 1820-1930 My wife's ancestor Mary LAUMER (1846 - 1930) was (according to some sources) the first white girl born in St. Mary's, PA. Parent's were Anthony LAUMER (c.1820- 1881) and Catherine HAZEL both probably Bavarian. At some time the LAUMER family must have relocated to Emporium in Cameron County, PA. Mary married Thomas VALENTINE there in 1868 and Anthony died there, run over by a train. Mary might have married Thomas outside of St. Mary's as he was not Catholic (at least he was buried in the Presbyterian Cemetary in St. Mary's.) The various histories of St. Mary's all indicate that it was settled by the German Catholic Brotherhood of Philadelphia and Baltimore, but I have been able to find not other information about the group than the name. If you have any other information it would be appreciated. Anthony and Catherine had at least 4 other children, John, who relocated to Birmingham Alabama, N.J. who relocated to Newark, NJ, Theresia (born in Emporium in 1858- died in St. Mary's 1836) who never married and a girl whose name I do not know Brian "Brian R. Donnelly" <[email protected]>
