SMITH, Abraham; USA; 1736 Abraham SMITH, father of Soloman SMITH, was born c.1736 possibly in New Jersey or New York USA. He married a Rachel (last name unknown). It is reported that he was a Loyalist and threatened with confiscation of property and physical harm (tarring and feathering)if he did not swear allegiance to the newly formed USA. He refused to do so and his wife put him in a crate with a jug of milk and took him concealed on a wagon to Canada (believed to have entered at Fort Erie. Date and place of death unknown.
