You need to request that your public library borrow them from the Kansas State Historical Society. (See their site on the Internet for the information you need -- film numbers, etc.) If the father was alive in 1875 you will find him, and don't forget their is an 1870 Federal census to look at as well. You might check the 1880 mortality schedule as well, if you don't know when he died. He was the one that was at Alcatraz and was portrayed in the movie "Murder in the First", by Kevin Bacon. His parents were David E. Young, dob circa 1877 and Helen Sherwood, dob 1892.
