He was a soldier who came from the Neu Weid area of Germany, near Koblenz. His grandson Thomas was killed circa 1778 during the American Revolution and the sons of Thomas were United Empire Loyalists who settled in the Niagara area of Ontario, Canada following the revolution. He was a railroad man. Believe he was married twice. Little is known of the Hornellsville connection but he did have TORPY grandchildren there. His daughter Mary m Frank KEOUGH and they lived in Buffalo, NY. James' son Michael and daughter Katherine Torpy SWEENEY also lived in Attica, Wyoming Co., NY. Michael, also a railroad man, died in Niagara Falls, NY abt 1908. Michael TORPY was m to Catherine OAKLEY from Angelica, Allegheny Co., NY.
