BAUER; BAY,DEU>New York City,NY,USA; 1820-1885 Kunigunda Bauer (1823-1882) who immigrated to NYC, NY, from Nuremberg, Bavaria, around 1850, was married to Leonard Hoefler also of Nuremberg. They were Protestants. A family story is that she was some sort of domestic and that his class was slightly higher; therefore, they had to leave Nuremberg because his family was angry. However, Kunigunda appears to have had a daughter Magdalena around 1843, years before coming to New York City. The Hoeflers named their children Magdalena, George, Miriam, Emma, Mathilda, Franklin, Olga, and Martha. Does Kunigunda Bauer appear to fit into anyone's family tree in Bavaria? Remember Bauer is an extremely common German name, so please only respond if your Bauers fit locations and/or exact names. Thanks. Elizabeth W. Knowlton [email protected]

ROWLANDSON; MA,USA/RI,USA; c 1600- Hi all!!!! I am in search for information regarding a Mary Rowlandson, who was married to a Congregational Minister (1st name unknown) back around the time of King Philip's War in the 1600's. Mrs. Mary Rowlandson was captured and kidnapped by Weetamoe, a Squaw Sachem for the Pocasset Tribe in the area of Tiverton (Pocasset) Rhode Island and Fall River, MA around 1677. Weetamoe was married to Alexander (Wamsutta) the brother of King Philip (also known as Metacomet) Mrs. Rowlandson was in captivity for about three months and made a slave to Weetamoe. Mrs. Rowlandson wrote a diary (or what was called a scribble) after her experiences. I am trying to get a hold of a copy of this manuscript and any relatives. NELSON, William; IRL > NY,USA; 1848 [email protected] (William Stewart) wrote; William Nelson(b 1812), his wife Jane Woods(b Mar 12, 1813) and several children sailed from Liverpool in 1848 to NY then settled in Ontario. All I know is that they were natives of Co. Monaghan. I would like to know more about the family in Ireland. Would appreciate hearing from anyone searching this line or someone who knows where the name originated. Where they Irish or Scots-Irish? Mary (Nelson) Stewart [email protected] ============================ There were 42 WOODS in the parish of Donaghmoyne in 1823. That is around Carrickmacross, in the south of co. Monaghan. There are 112 townlands in that parish, I have the list. The Woods name could be a translation of an Irish name or the name of a more recent settler. The Irish name was O'COILLIGH. Cull, Cuill (coill) = "a wood". I think they were Irish as the settlers were not warmly welcomed in those parts at that time period. There was a David and a Francis Nelson there also. In Matheson's births by county in 1890, there were 10 WOODS in co. Monaghan and no other county had more than 4. Looks like Monaghan might be the place to search. A Wm. Nelson of Corvally was awarded a contract for caring for the roads in 1881. In the 1930s there was "land agitation" in Monaghan. The Nelsons of Longfield, Carrickmacross, paid 3000 pounds for part of the Jackson estate. Those who had these lands taken in conacre objected and the Nelson's property was attacked and the family subjected to personal abuse. Anne Nelson of Ballybay was a teacher in 1824 being paid 46 pounds per annum. F.H. Nelson owned the first bus service that linked Ballybay, Monaghan, Middletown, and Armagh, in 1927. LANGAN; IRL>Boston, MA,USA>MO,USA; 1885 Is there some particular geographic location in Ireland that a family with the LANGAN surname might have lived during the 1880's? The only location I have is that my husband's immigrant grandmother left Ireland from the port of Moville, on a ship out of Glasgow, bound for Philadelphia/Boston, USA, ca. 1885/86. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Lorraine [email protected]
