According to my information, Alice's father was John H. MIDDLETON, b. 1790 in NC. Daniel and Alice were in Franklin Co., AL by 1848. Daniel is said to have enlisted in the Confederate Army and served in Colonel Moreland's regiment of calvary, principally in MS, AL, and TN. He was in the battles of Shiloh, Athens, Harrisburg and other. Daniel and Alice had three children: Mary Jane, b. 2 Jul 1848, AL, m. abt 1870 to Andrew Carson MATTHEWS Susanah A., b. 26 Oct 1849, AL, d. 29 Jul 1902 William Evett, b. 9 Mar 1853, AL, m. By 1900 was dead, leaving Emma and 5 children living in Jackson, Mi on West Trail St. Sometime between 1899-1900, Joseph died in a gas explosion. If anyone has any info I'd really appreciate it. They left behind one/two brother(s) I believe Friedrich Karl b abt 1815. They were all tenant farmers and upon their arrival in USA, Gottfried settled in Poplar Grove, Boone County, Illinois and Samuel & Friederike Erbentraut Winter settled and died in Brushville, Bloomfield Township, Waushara County, Wisconsin. Gottried & Pauline both lived and died in Poplar Grove, Boone, Illinois however three children settled in Ottawa County, Kansas and two children in San Jose, California. He and wife Fredericka HENDRICKS (HENDRES) were both from Prussia, but I don't know what town. I've been told that Fuhlendorf may be a possibility. I don't know if they were married before or after they arrived in the USA. They had several children, and I believe at least one of them may have relocated to the Duluth, MN area. Some may also have migrated to Canada. Somewhere along the line, the spelling was changed to KEOPKE. John KOEPKE (KEOPKE) was born in 1858 in Ashland, but moved to Iowa and finally ended up near Joplin, Missouri.
