HALDEMAN; GA,USA; 1864 I have heard that a General Walter Haldeman and his family lived in Warrenton, GA in 1861-1863 during the War Between the States. A guest from Kentucky was supposedly resident in their home at the time of the birth of a son named Walter Haldeman Clarke, my great-grandfather. His father was with the First Kentucky Brigade and had been wounded in the battle of Dalton. We cannot locate reference to the Haldemans. Many thanks. PURSLEY / BLACK Gavin; IRL>SC,USA>TN,USA; 1766- Gavin, Guion, Gion, Gowan, etc. is a family given name used by my Pursley/Black families in America. The name has been mis-spelled on various documents in which it was probably spelled phonically. Could someone inform me if these "G" names have similar sounds in Gaelic? If so, how would they sound when pronounced? Thank you, Juanima Macdol@worldnet.att.net

Re: LOTHROP; Barnstable, MA,USA; 1584-1789 Hi, If you check the ancestral file at the FHC on Samuel Chipman, his Lathrop ancestry starts with his mother Abigail b.1689 in Barnstable, she married Thomas Chipman in 1711. Her ancestry goes back to Walter b. abt 1355 in O,,England. The Chipman side in our family comes down to Doris Chipman b. 1908-1980. ELDREDGE / ELDRIDGE; Barnstable, MA,USA; 1750-1800 I am researching the family of Mary ELDREDGE (or ELDRIDGE). All I know about her so far is that she married Judah BAKER and they had a daughter Jane BAKER. Their daughter Jane was born 8 June 1761 and married Ebenezer GAGE in 1780 in Barnstable, MA. I suspect that she may be the daughter of John Eldredge and Elizabeth Gorham, and that her father John was the son of John Eldredge and Mary Jenkins, and that John Senior was the son of Samuel Eldredge and Keziah Taylor. However, I am not at all certain of this information. If you have any information about this family, or any likely ELDRIDGE/ELDREDGE family in Barnstable, MA, please send e-mail to BarbPretz@aol.com. Thanks for your help! Barb
FROST; ENG>Sudbury,MA,USA; 1540-1653 I am researching the family of Thomasine FROST (1600-1653/4). She was born before 11 Aug 1600 in Stamstead, England, married Edmund RICE in England, and died 13 June 1653/4 in Sudbury, MA. She was the daughter of Edward FROST (1560-1616) and Thomesine BELGRAVE (1561-1616). Edward was the son of John FROST (1540-1609) and Ann SCOTT (1538-1588). I know very little about this family and just found this bare-bones information on GENDEX the other day. If you have any information, please send e-mail to BarbPretz@aol.com. Thanks for your help! GAGE; ENG>BarnstableCo, MA,USA; 1625-1897 I am researching the family of Mary (also known as Polly) GAGE. She was born in Barnstable, MA. She married Roland TAYLOR (who was born 30 Nov 1780 also in Barnstable). Mary (Polly) GAGE and Roland TAYLOR had a daughter, Phebe Thatcher TAYLOR, who was born in 1821 in South Dartmouth, MA. Phebe Thatcher TAYLOR married William Macy WILBER in 1840 and lived in New Bedford and Dartmouth, MA. They had 5 children: Maria Macy, Roland Taylor, Mary Gage, William Sanford & Charles Allen. Phebe died 5 July, 1897 in New Bedford, MA. I believe that Mary(Polly) GAGE was the daughter of Ebenezer GAGE and Jane BAKER, but I am not 100% certain of that fact. If I am correct, then I can trace her back to Thomas GAGE of Yarmouth, MA. Thomas GAGE was born circa 1625 in England and came to America sometime before 1648. He married Johanna KNIGHT before 1648 in Lynn, Essex County, MA. Johnann KNIGHT had been born circa 1627 in Rowley, Essex County, MA. They had a son Benjamin GAGE circa 1658 and the family lived for many generations in Yarmouth, Barnstable County, MA. If you have any information about this family, please send e-mail to BarbPretz@aol.com. Thanks for your help! Barb

GUALMAIO; Cicagna,ITA>Lawrence, MA,USA; 1881-1950 I am researching my grandmother, Maria Balbina GUALMAIO: She was supposedly born in Genoa, Italy on 18 November 1881 and was raised by the Leverone family in Cicagna, Italy. She married Giovanni MALATESTA in 1901 in Cicagna and they had one son, Richard Malatesta. She came to the US in the early 1900's with her son to settle in Lawrence, Massachusetts. She married Paolo (Paul) ANSELMI and had 2 children: Iris Mary in 1916 and Aurelio John in 1917. Actually, I have not been able to locate anyone, in the US or otherwise, who has the surname GUALMAIO or has ever heard of anyone else who has that surname. So, I am also wondering if this surname actually exists. I know that the spelling was not just a recording error from immigration since I have a copy of my grandmother's marriage certificate from Italy with the name GUALMAIO spelled that way. I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who has ever heard of the surname or has any ideas how to trace its existance. If you have any information or suggestions, please send e-mail to BarbPretz@aol.com. Thanks for your help! Barb
