KEATING Robert; IRL; c. 1835 Is there anyone out there who can give me some help or advice?? I have reached a dead end trying to trace my wife's family tree. I have reache her Great Grand father whose details are as follows KEATING Robert was from Bramdon (Bandon??), County Cork, apparently. He was said to be Roman Catholic and could read and write. His birth date would have been around 1816. He enlisted about 1835, in the 50th Regiment and served with the regiment on convict guard duty in NSW and later with the regiment in India. He was Court Martialed on 13 September 1847 at Fort William Calcutta for striking a Sergeant Sugars several times (on separate occasions ?). He received a total of 150 lashes and a period in goal before being transported on the "Gazelle" from Calcutta to VDL. Occupation given as tailor. >From this point on we have hime well documented, as is the case with most convicts, including his marriage to a Julia RUDD (herself the daughter of two convicts), and through to my wife. From here I am at a lost as to how to :- a. prove his birth, either place or date. b. identify either of his parents. c. establish their details. If any one can help with information, suggestions, adivce I would appreciate it. Thank you Rex Rex Phillips Melbourne Australia Rex Phillips <rex@acepia.net.au>
