    3. STEWART, John; DOW,NIR/MLN,SCT; c. 1833 Seeking information on John STEWART., b. 21 Oct 1833 possibly in Castlewellan, Co. Down, N. Ireland, to William Stitt Stewart and Elizabeth Bowles. He married Caroline Elanor Newsam on 26 Mar 1861 in Maghera, Co. Down and died in a nursing home at 41 Drumond Place, Edinburgh, Scotland. John and Caroline had 7 children between 1863-1878, born in Edinburgh. John was a wine merchant and owned a Scotch distilling business "Mssrs. John Stewart & Sons" at 62 (?) Canongate, Edinburgh. The firm was founded in 1813 by John's grandfather. There was a retail establishment in Regent Place, Edinburgh and also an Irish branch at Dundrum, Co. Down, N. Ireland. Can anyone tell me if the business still exists? I'm also told at one time the family owned virtually all of the land around Maghera, Co. Down, N. Ireland, including two mills (corn and flax). There was a house near the mills which was called "Mill House" as well as another house called "Drumee House", in Castlewellan, Co. Down. Does anyone know if the houses still exist? I'm making a trip to N. Ireland and Scotland this year and would like to bring back photos for my grandmother and uncle. -- Sandra L.
