Her mother was an O'Neylon of Co. Clare, a family active in the army of James II. It is said that his wife converted him to the Catholic cause. Prior to 1705 he conveyed large tracts of land in west Cork to the Deane family of Dromore, but I don't know whether he or his family left descendants there. This John and his wife's family were associated with my KEANE (O'Cahan) ancestors in Co. Clare, who were staunch Jacobites. Historically they were always Catholic, but my direct ancestor converted to Protestantism about 1700 to preserve the family property in Co.Clare. His immediate KEANE descendants were Protestant but they were back to Catholic again in a couple of generations. Religious differences thus exist within many Irish families, and the above is only one explanation for it. It is a mistake however to assume that a family of the same name but different religion is unrelated. I have no idea if descendants of the Baronets assumed the surname KINGSTON, but it's certainly possible. I have never seen it documented. The KEANEs certainly did and it was through their connection with the very same lands on the Cork-Kerry border. Len. "Leonard M. Keane" <Dolmen1@ix.netcom.com>
