BYRNES / BYRNE James, Patrick; Tullow,CAR,IRL>RI,USA; -1900 I'm looking to combine information that I have with anyone else who may have information on the Byrne family originating from Tullow and Leighlinbridge, County Carlow, Ireland. Here are some facts that I believe to be true. My grandfather James Patrick Byrnes (real name Patrick James Byrne) came over from Ireland sometime between 1901 and 1910, and settled in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. James (Patrick) was born on October 6, 1886 and died on Februrary 14, 1940. He was from the town of Tullow, in County Carlow, Ireland. He married Katherine Glennon also from Ireland in 1911 in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. James' parents were Henry Byrne and Catherine Redmond. According to census records Henry should have been born in 1844 or 1845. I believe he was born in Leighlinbridge about 10 miles up the road from Tullow in County Carlow, but I'm not positive. The marriage certificate to Catherine Redmond states that his father was Sylvester Byrne. I had tracked down two Sylvester Byrne. I found one death certificate for Sylvester Byrne which stated that he died in Leighlinbridge on February 6, 1885 and said that he was 74 years old and a laborer. This I believe is probably the correct one, mainly because of the job title. Sylvester stated he was a laborer on the marriage certificate of Henry Byrne and Catherine Redmond. This would mean that he was born around 1810 or 1811. A second death certificate was found that stated that a Sylvester Byrne died on November 25, 1870 also in Leighlinbridge he was 70 years old and a Cattle-jobber, I think it's less likely that this one is him but I can't be positive. This would mean that he was born @1800. I also found references to 3 different marriages to a Sylvester Byrne. Since there seems to be 2 Sylvester Byrne's in the same town it's a little confusing as to which marriage goes with which Sylvester. Anyways, I found references to a marriage to Mary Kealy on October 10, 1851, a marriage to Mary Kavanaugh on February 11, 1860, and a marriage to Bridget Boyan sometime before July 1854. Maybe he married twice? Any additional information on this would be wonderful. As most of the information that we know about our family was lost. -John- jabyrne@research.att.com
