    3. O'NEILL, Quinlan / DWYER, Nora; Boffickil,Cork,IRL; c. 1840-1857 According to Riobard O'Dwyer, Beara peninsula genealogist, Nora (of Boffickil) & Quinlan were married (probably in the Eyeries parish church) on July 21, 1856, and had a son John O'Neill in Boffickil in 1857. One of the marriage witnesses was a Timothy Dwyer. Apparently in those days it was the custom for the couple's fathers to be the marriage witnesses. Robert O'Dwyer of Boffickil (c. 1797-c. 1846) was dead, but he had a grown son Timothy (1832-1905) who didn't emigrate to the USA until 1857. Robert's brother Timothy also lived in Boffickil. So Nora was most probably a daughter of either Robert or his brother Timothy. No further trace can be found, so the young family probably emigrated soon thereafter. This Robert O'Dwyer was my ggrandfather. Anyone out there find this data familiar??? Thanks in advance Tom 1/4/98 Tom McGourin <mcgourin@ix.netcom.com>

About all I can say is that two known genealogies which took the family history back to the early 11th century found their way into the trashcan shortly after their researchers were buried. The family, as you well know by now, is in the small side. This is both a blessing and a curse. The blessing is that we are almost certainly from the same family ancestors (little liklihood that others dependent upon us assumed our name). The curse is that the name rarely turns up on a Web site. With your permission, I'm going to investigate the possibility that Six Mile Bridge is a Townland, and if so, what church, or churches does it serve. One thing that has hampered our searches to date is finding a correct Townland for one of our ancestors. If we can do this for one, then we should be able to easily expand it. Fortunately, the O'Shaughnessys that do crop up are all in perhaps 4 or 5 counties in western Ireland. My O'Shaughnessy ancestors (grandfather) was born ca 1847 in Co. Galway, and emigrated to Pittsburgh irca 1880. Bill Shaughnessy Billshau29@aol.com

    3. KEATING Robert; IRL; c. 1835 Is there anyone out there who can give me some help or advice?? I have reached a dead end trying to trace my wife's family tree. I have reache her Great Grand father whose details are as follows KEATING Robert was from Bramdon (Bandon??), County Cork, apparently. He was said to be Roman Catholic and could read and write. His birth date would have been around 1816. He enlisted about 1835, in the 50th Regiment and served with the regiment on convict guard duty in NSW and later with the regiment in India. He was Court Martialed on 13 September 1847 at Fort William Calcutta for striking a Sergeant Sugars several times (on separate occasions ?). He received a total of 150 lashes and a period in goal before being transported on the "Gazelle" from Calcutta to VDL. Occupation given as tailor. >From this point on we have hime well documented, as is the case with most convicts, including his marriage to a Julia RUDD (herself the daughter of two convicts), and through to my wife. From here I am at a lost as to how to :- a. prove his birth, either place or date. b. identify either of his parents. c. establish their details. If any one can help with information, suggestions, adivce I would appreciate it. Thank you Rex Rex Phillips Melbourne Australia Rex Phillips <rex@acepia.net.au>

    3. GILMORES; IRL; 1700-1775 I am researching three lines of Gilmores who left Ulster for America in the 18th century. 1. John Gillmor and his wife Agnes, son James and other children left Ulster within the first two decades of the 18th century. John was born in Renfrewshire, Scotland, circa 1660, it is believed. We do not know where in Ulster they lived but circumstantial evidence points to the lower Bann Valley, near Coleraine. They settled in southeastern Massachusetts, living in a succession of towns beginning with Weymouth. 2. Robert Gillmor (born circa 1730?) and his wife Martha Steele emigrated to America, settling in New Hampshire. Their daughter Margaret married Whitefield, son of James (see above). 3. Elizabeth Gilmore left Ulster for Philadelphia close to the beginning of the American Revolution (1775). After the war she married John Barry (whom she met on the immigrant ship) and removed to Washington County, Pennsylvania. I am generally interested in Gilmore family history both in Ulster and in America. Peter Gilmore uenews@ranknfile-ue.org
