Her marriage licence bond was dated 29 Nov 1824. She married George HAUGHTON. Does anyone know about the SHEPPARDs, especially from the Leap, or know anything about this place? TEVENDALE; IRL/SCT; 1700- Dear All, I am trying to locate anyone tracing any TEVENDALE family in Ireland or Scotland. My g-grandfather was Alexander Tevendale BLACK. He was born in 1881 in Australia of Scots-Irish and Scots parents. It was always said that his middle name "Tevendale" was a family name from a few generations earlier. I'm trying to find that link. I've been able to trace his mother's (Ayrshire-based) family between two and five generations earlier, but haven't found TEVENDALE there. His father's side were Scots-Irish and lived for a while in Sligo, Ireland. I can trace them back two generations, but with no sign of TEVENDALE. However, then I come to a brick wall because I don't know where his grandfather James BLACK came from. I guess he would have been born in about 1812 or earlier and may have come from the area around Sligo or else from Scotland. To connect my family with a TEVENDALE family, there would have had to have been a marriage between one of the following families at or before the years shown: BLACK 1800 Ireland or Scotland GALBREATH 1800 Glasgow/Paisley McKIM 1780 Sligo (Ireland) MURDOCH 1780 Dundonald (Ayrshire) PARKER 1700 Sorn/Dundonald (Ayrshire) ROBERTSON 1800 Glasgow/Paisley RYAN 1780 Sligo (Ireland) SMITH 1750 Sorn (Ayrshire) If I were taking a guess, I'd pick the Glasgow/Clyde region for the TEVENDALE family. She migrated to South Australia aboard the 'South Sea' in 1855, at the age of 18. Her occupation was servant, her residence Tyrone. Also aboard the ship was Robert BEATTY, labourer, age 19, residence Tyrone. I suspect this to be her brother. She married Joseph DUNNING on 23 Jan 1856, Chain of Ponds SA AUS.
