HANNIGAN,Thomas; Dublin,IRL>MD,USA; c.1840 I am looking for anyone researching the surname HANNIGAN. My 2nd great grandfather, Thomas Hannigan, was born in Dublin c. 1816-1820 and came to MD (probably Baltimore) before 1845. There he married Mary ? from PA and their 2 oldest children were born (Thomas b. June 1846 and Elizabeth b. 1848). The family lived in Harrison Co., WV in 1860 to at least 1866 , then moving to Barbour Co., WV. Other children born in WV are: Ann or Anna(b.July 1850) ,Margaret(b.1855), John(b.1858),and Mary Ellen(b.1861). As mentioned previously, Hannigan seems to be an unusual surname. It has been suggested that the name was changed from O'Hennigan. Does anyone else have any ideas? How would I start to search for birth records if I do not know what religion Thomas belonged to? Thanks to everyone for an informative list. Happy holidays. JoAnn Cupp ana@mlode.com
