Her mother was an O'Neylon of Co. Clare, a family active in the army of James II. It is said that his wife converted him to the Catholic cause. Prior to 1705 he conveyed large tracts of land in west Cork to the Deane family of Dromore, but I don't know whether he or his family left descendants there. This John and his wife's family were associated with my KEANE (O'Cahan) ancestors in Co. Clare, who were staunch Jacobites. Historically they were always Catholic, but my direct ancestor converted to Protestantism about 1700 to preserve the family property in Co.Clare. His immediate KEANE descendants were Protestant but they were back to Catholic again in a couple of generations. Religious differences thus exist within many Irish families, and the above is only one explanation for it. It is a mistake however to assume that a family of the same name but different religion is unrelated. I have no idea if descendants of the Baronets assumed the surname KINGSTON, but it's certainly possible. I have never seen it documented. The KEANEs certainly did and it was through their connection with the very same lands on the Cork-Kerry border. Len. "Leonard M. Keane" <Dolmen1@ix.netcom.com>

    3. BRUGGY / BROGGY Jeremiah; CLA,IRL; -1831 My gr gr gr grandfather Jeremiah BRUGGY/BROGGY, of the townland of Drumline in Co. Clare, married Ann/Hannah HINCHEY around 1831, probably either in the parish of Newmarket-on-Fergus, where the offspring to be named shortly were baptised, or in Ennis. The Bruggy children included those appearing in the aforementioned baptism records (Annie, March 1832; Mary, August 1834; Lot, August 1840) as well as those missing from the incomplete baptism records (Stephen, c.1830; Jeremiah, c.1837; and my ancestor Margaret, c.1838). It is thought Jeremiah died in the late 1850s, triggering the emigration of his widow and son Stephen to England, and other children (Jeremiah, Lot and Margaret) to New South Wales. Nothing is known of the destinies of children Annie or Mary. A cluster of Bruggy families have been identified from various 1830s records at Drumline/Newmarket-on-Fergus. 1. BYRNES / BYRNE James, Patrick; Tullow,CAR,IRL>RI,USA; -1900
    2. BYRNES / BYRNE James, Patrick; Tullow,CAR,IRL>RI,USA; -1900 I'm looking to combine information that I have with anyone else who may have information on the Byrne family originating from Tullow and Leighlinbridge, County Carlow, Ireland. Here are some facts that I believe to be true. My grandfather James Patrick Byrnes (real name Patrick James Byrne) came over from Ireland sometime between 1901 and 1910, and settled in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. James (Patrick) was born on October 6, 1886 and died on Februrary 14, 1940. He was from the town of Tullow, in County Carlow, Ireland. He married Katherine Glennon also from Ireland in 1911 in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. James' parents were Henry Byrne and Catherine Redmond. According to census records Henry should have been born in 1844 or 1845. I believe he was born in Leighlinbridge about 10 miles up the road from Tullow in County Carlow, but I'm not positive. The marriage certificate to Catherine Redmond states that his father was Sylvester Byrne. I had tracked down two Sylvester Byrne. I found one death certificate for Sylvester Byrne which stated that he died in Leighlinbridge on February 6, 1885 and said that he was 74 years old and a laborer. This I believe is probably the correct one, mainly because of the job title. Sylvester stated he was a laborer on the marriage certificate of Henry Byrne and Catherine Redmond. This would mean that he was born around 1810 or 1811. A second death certificate was found that stated that a Sylvester Byrne died on November 25, 1870 also in Leighlinbridge he was 70 years old and a Cattle-jobber, I think it's less likely that this one is him but I can't be positive. This would mean that he was born @1800. I also found references to 3 different marriages to a Sylvester Byrne. Since there seems to be 2 Sylvester Byrne's in the same town it's a little confusing as to which marriage goes with which Sylvester. Anyways, I found references to a marriage to Mary Kealy on October 10, 1851, a marriage to Mary Kavanaugh on February 11, 1860, and a marriage to Bridget Boyan sometime before July 1854. Maybe he married twice? Any additional information on this would be wonderful. As most of the information that we know about our family was lost. -John- jabyrne@research.att.com

He received a grant of land in Dover, N. H. in 1696/7. It is believed he came from Ireland (N. Ireland ?) because some of his desendants had the Orangeman symbol on their gravestones.
