BAUER; BAY,DEU>New York City,NY,USA; 1820-1885 Kunigunda Bauer (1823-1882) who immigrated to NYC, NY, from Nuremberg, Bavaria, around 1850, was married to Leonard Hoefler also of Nuremberg. They were Protestants. A family story is that she was some sort of domestic and that his class was slightly higher; therefore, they had to leave Nuremberg because his family was angry. However, Kunigunda appears to have had a daughter Magdalena around 1843, years before coming to New York City. The Hoeflers named their children Magdalena, George, Miriam, Emma, Mathilda, Franklin, Olga, and Martha. Does Kunigunda Bauer appear to fit into anyone's family tree in Bavaria? Remember Bauer is an extremely common German name, so please only respond if your Bauers fit locations and/or exact names. Thanks. Elizabeth W. Knowlton KnowltonEW@compuserve.com
