HUEVEL / HUEBEL / HUEBELE / HEBELE Edward; DEU>IN,USA; 1868-1912 I am seeking information on the HUEVEL (sometimes spelled H"UBEL or H"UBELE or HEBELE) surname. My maternal grandfather was Edward HUEVEL/H"UBEL/HEBELE [b. 8 Feb 1868 in Germany], who emmigrated to the U.S. sometime before 1898. I do not know Edward's mother's name, but his father was named "William". At the time of his death (8 Jul 1912), Edward was listed as a general laborer (or, some records say, a cooper; others a barkeeper) in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Edward married Kathryn KOHLSTAEDT/KOHLST"ADT on 21 May 1898 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. [Kathryn was b. 29 Jan 1868 in Hesse-Kassel, Germany and her father was named "Henry" (mother's name unknown)]. If these names are familiar to anyone out there, I would appreciate any information that you may be able to provide in identifying Edward's and/or Kathryn's ancestors. [I have a list of descendants of Edward & Kathryn if their names would be helpful.] Please contact: Robert C. Kryter, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, U.S.A. RKryter@aol.com

Hi, folks -- I just spent a day moving all of the SURNAMES lists from one system here at rootsweb.com to another. The newer machine is faster and has more stable mailing list software. That should (hopefully) mean less work for me to do maintaining the lists, which in turn should mean that I can spend more time improving the lists, such as setting up archive searching, cutting down on duplicate messages, and making it easier to post. The move took much longer than expected, and had a couple of pretty hairy pitfalls. Some consequences of this were that no messages went out on any of the lists for about 24 hours, and when they did start up again, the digest lists behaved like undigested lists. So the digest subscribers out there got a couple of dozen individual messages, some of them repeated a few times while I was ham-handedly debugging the system. This part was entirely my fault, and I'm sorry about that. As far as I can tell from here, all the trains are running on time. If you notice any problems or have any questions, please don't hesitate to give me a holler. Regards, Tim Pierce, soc.genealogy.surnames moderator-in-chief

HOBEIN,Adolf; DEU; 1900- For anyone researching this name out of Germany that has a missing sibling. Adolf A F HOBEIN married one of my grandmothers sisters in Sydney in 1929. They had a son called Alf. Little is known of Adolf except that he was from Germany and during WW2 was with the Australian merchant navy. Adolf died from injuries received from an industrial accident years later. After the war there was dialog with his family but it would appear they chose to 'disown' him. Sadly the son, Alf, lived to a good age but never married or produced heirs. For anyone interested I would gladly supply any info I can. Regards, Jeni King "Jenny King" <jnk@wn.com.au>
