    3. FIELD / POTTER; Montreal,CAN>USA; 1815-1830 William FIELD was born in Pocklington, Yorkshire, England around 1810. He arrived as a child in Montreal around 1815. His parents returned to England leaving their children behind. I don't know if they were left with relatives or an institution. William grew up in Montreal and married Ann POTTER, daughter of Edward POTTER and Grace (WAITE) POTTER. They became early converts to the LDS and moved to Ohio in the very early 1830's. As you can see, my knowledge of William's early years and ancestry is extremely limited. I'd dearly love to find out who his parents were, why they returned to England, and with whom the children were left. Does anybody here know if there was a census in Montreal between 1815 and 1830? How much info was included? Where can I access it? BTW, please don't tell me to use my local FHC. Although William and his family were early Mormon converts, and followed the entire hegira from Ohio to Utah, they left the church and ran away from Salt Lake in 1848. They've been pretty much excised from all church records.
