CHEEVERS / AHERNE; IRL > ON,CAN; 1776- I am looking for any information on the Cheevers family. I believe the family immigrated to Canada from Ireland in the 1840's or in 1850. I've been told that their ship was originally scheduled to land in the United States but had to be re-routed to Canada because of poor weather. The family settled in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. My ggg-grandparents were Philip CHEEVERS b. 1776 in Ireland, d. 1874 in Brantford, On, Can and Margaret AHERNE b. 1793 in Ireland, d. 1871 in Brantford, On, Can. They immigrated with 4 children. They were as follows: 1. My gg-grandfather Philip CHEEVERS b. 1823 I believe in co. Westmeath, Ire, d. 1898 in Brantford. He married Mary TYRELL b. 1823 also I believe in co. Westmeath, Ire, d. 1908 in Brantford. 2. Patrick CHEEVERS b. abt 1830 in Ire. He married Mary GRIFFIN b unknown. After marrying in Brantford I've been told they later settled in Amherst, Ohio, U.S. They both died in Ohio, Patrick in 1877 and Mary in 1922. 3. James CHEEVERS b abt 1834 in Ire, d. 1884 in Brantford. He married Ellen NUGENT b. abt 1839 in Ireland, d. 1887 in Brantford. 4. Bridget CHEEVERS b. abt 1839 in Ire, d. unknown. I just started researching my history a few months ago and there may be some mistakes with my information. Any information on the family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
