FOLLWELL; ON,CAN; 1880- My great-grandfather and his family emigrated from the UK to Ontario in the late 1870s. His name was William LENNOX. They returned to the UK in the late 1880s. One of his daughters, Amy Elizabeth LENNOX born 1876, stayed in Canada and married an Edwin John FOLLWELL. I believe they had at least three children named James, Percy and William. I have this information from the cemetary records of Belleville, Ontario where they lived. I believe that Percy married Esther SHIPSTONE and that William married Margaret I. McALPINE. Amy also had a brother Henry Austin LENNOX born 1873 who I believe married Louise Margaret WARD. I would be interested to find out more about what happened to the family in Canada and whether there are any descendants out there doing research. STGEORGE Joseph / NEVUE Caroline; CAN > MI,USA > OH,USA > MN,USA; 1839-1943 Jospeh St.George born 1839 in Canada. Died 27 May1898 in Duluth, MN USA. Caroline Nevue born 21 March 1848 in Canada. Died 8 November 1943. Couple married in 1863. Death notices and news-clippings suggest the following route of residencies: Canada to Bay City, MI USA(ca.1864) to Cleveland, OH USA( - ca.1870) to Duluth, MN USA(ca.1870). Joseph was a Great Lakes ship builder and followed the trade. I know his son specialized in keel construction. Could Joe Sr. have passed this craft on to his son? The couple had 18 children: Mary(b. 1864 Michigan), Joseph(b. 1867 Micigan), Mary Jane(b. 1869 Duluth), Elizabeth(b. 1870 Duluth), Flimon Caroline, Emerence, Mary Louise, Emma, Eli Fred, George, Peter Phillip, Theophile, Agnes, Joseph Edward, Annie, Agnes Marcelline, Jerome Fred, Arthur Joseph Alexander. I have a letter from the National Archives - Great Lakes Region with naturalization record information which I believe to be for Joseph. It states the following: Joseph St.George Vol. "A" - P. #2 USDC-5th Div.-Duluth, MN From: Great Britain-Ireland Nat:5/11/1897 Wit: Cleophas Tremblay & Joseph Couture [location: 922550] Joseph, my second great grandfather, is the oldest known St.George in my ancestry. Caroline is the oldest known Nevue in my ancestry. I am in search of any information on either of these names. And if any one can explain why someone from Canada would be noted as being from Great Britain-Ireland in US naturalization records. I have some information on their descendants and the Tessier ancestry of Caroline Nevue. Thank You. Michael St.George (612) 602-9399 809 Portland Ave. Apt.6 St.Paul, MN 55104 jhtps1@worldnet.att.net
IRWIN, William; ON,CAN; 1850 Dear folks, I'm looking for the descendants of John and Susan Henry, nee Blackman, who emigrated from Sligo to Canada in the mid 1800s, and settled in Albion Township, Peel County. Their son William married (28/9/1854, in Albion Township) Susan Irwin, the daughter of Alexander and "Fanny" Frances Devereaux Irwin (nee Burrows). They resided in Albion Township and later (c1884) moved to Artemesia, Grey County, Ontario. My great-great-great-grandparents were Dr. Jervis and Margaretta Blackman (nee Fenton) of Sligo. The name Jervis has continued in our family as in the Henry family of Sligo. It is thought that Susan Blackman (Mrs J. Henry) is Jervis' sister. Another sister married Brevet Major William Irwin of Sligo, who died in Australia in 1840. His wife later joined her sister in Ontario. As in the Henry family, our family has passed on the story that the Blackman family were from Kent, though recent investigation would suggest they were from Limpsfield, Surrey, not far from Kent. A descendant, MR G. HOWARD wrote a book in the late 1980s about the "Henry & Irwin Families". Regards, John "J M & W S" <bungarribee@winshop.com.au>
