    3. MARBLE / FOOTE; ENG>USA>ENG; 1700-1800 Does anyone researching Marble surname have a family, wife and children, that ceased to be called by the surname Marble about late 1700's or early 1800's in England? I just found out my mother's father 'Jeremiah Henry Foote' b.1880, d.1963 Newton Abbott, Devon, ENG,said that the surname Foote had not been that for too long, but was actually "MARBLE or MARBEL". His gr-grandfather (or his father) had died leaving a family. The wife remarried a man with surname Foote and the children all took on the surname also. No mention of adoption. Jeremiah remained a British citizen, yet live here in WA state early 1900s, with time out to serve in British Imperial Forces during WWI,( he enlisted in Canada), he returned and as far as I know the last time he was in US was 1945, he died in Eng. I never knew my grandfather as my grandmother died in 1922, and he went back to Eng. for awhile, and when he returned he remarried in Vancouver. All of the relatives that could tell me any more are gone, or never knew him. I have searched the web and many books.records and etc., but can't seem to locate his other family in England. His mother was elderly during WWII and had to be dug out by hand from the rubble when the Germans bombed Plymouth Eng. This is the last address I have there for his parent. Do not know the names of his parents. His first son was named Frederick Grant Foote, with the middle name being after grandmother's fathers' middle name, so could the first name have been after Jeremiah's fathers middle name? If there is any one out there who is familiar with any of this I would really love to hear from you, I have most of my genealogy completed but this line has me stopped. I have contacted many Marble's on the web however most of them aren't looking in England. One other thing Jeremiah was born in Saltash, Cornwall, England, and on the 1910 census Klickitat County, WA, he was listed as 30 yrs and a carpenter, owning own business, married i child, deceased. from Eng. I am not sure which year he enlisted, but think it was after 1913 as him and grandmother lost a girl child in that year, and he was back by winter of 1920, as my mother was born August 1921. How would I acquire the records on his enlistment and from whom? Would there have been passports required in those days, or even in the early 1900's? If he worked on a ship to get here would he have needed a passport, and also being British would he have needed a permit or something to work here? I am sorry this has been so long and I will try to keep it shorter in the future. Any help anyone can give me will be great, and a big thank you for reading all this. Geri Guzman [email protected]
