ATHERTON / NETHERCLIFT; LND,ENG; 1800-1870 I am looking for the father of Matthew Netherclift who married Elizabeth. Matthew was born in 1774 he had 2 daughters and 2 sons one of whom was Frederick Matthew Netherclift who married Mary Anne Thayre of Stoke, Guildford, Surrey. They had several children , one of whom was Albert Edward Netherclift who married Sarah Anne Record in 1867. They also had several children, the one I am interested in was also called Albert Edward Netherclift. This son, (born 1 Aug 1870) at about 10years old , had his complete name changed to Arthur Eric Atherton! Can anyone suggest where I could find out about this change of name and was it very common?
