His father was JOSEPH NICHOLSON also a coalminer born 1832 in Dean, Cumberland. Referring to the IGI, I note the "possible" trail in Dean back through another FLETCHER NICHOLSON b 1807 Dean JOSEPH NICHOLSON b 1785 Dean FLETCHER NICHOLSON b 1751 Dean JOSEPH NICHOLSON b 1720 m 1742 ANN FLETCHER in Dean which perhaps explains the use of FLETCHER as a Christian name. This practice continued as late as the early 1920s when my uncle was named ERIC FLETCHER SMITH. This line of research needs to be fully investigated but I thought that I would post this now and see if anyone else has connections to this family or to ERIC FLETCHER SMITH as my mother lost contact with him in the 30s when her parents both died.
