    3. STEEL; LND,ENG; 1841 Hello all, I was hoping for some input on some new information I have received on the STEEL side of my family tree. James STEEL, married to Mary Ann nee LESTER, had two children in 1841, daughter Emily was three years old, son George John was 9 months. They lived at Jamaica Row, Bermondsey- I am presuming this is what is now Jamaica Road? James was a corn dealer and a ropemaker. He was 40 yrs old, Mary was 35 yrs old in 1841. George John STEEL married Susannah RICHARDS, of Horseley Down, Surrey- does anyone know where this place is? George was a cellarman- does anyone have any thoughts as to how I could find out where exactly he worked, ie. which pub or hotel? George and Susannah had five children, two girls, Elizabeth and Louise?, and three boys, two of which emigrated to Australia at some point, I have no way of knowing when or which ship, as I haven't their names yet, the first-born son, Richard William STEEL, my great grandfather, was born in 1870, Lawrence Poultney Hill, London. Richard married Elizabeth DOWLEY in 1903, Camberwell. Their address at that time was 43 The Grove- I haven't been able to locate this street yet. Richard was a Brewer's Assistant, and a Merchant Seaman at some point as well. Elizabeth's father was George Blaxland DOWLEY, a fireman- how would I get a fireman's career records? I presume the name BLAXLAND was George's mother's name. In and around 1905, Richard and his family emigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where we have been since. Any help or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks, Ketti kplant@telusplanet.net
