The name Rickman crops up more than once in my mainly-Quaker families, but not (yet) as a surname, just as a middle name. I have got no further than wondering where it came from, but I think it must be a wife's maiden name (in my families). If William Rickman's parents were Quakers and he was born before 1837 then he would not be in the GRO index and the Quaker records would need searching. Oddly enough, I am having trouble with an Etherington connection in a non-Quaker family. Howard.
