    3. KERRELL / KERRILL / KIRIELL / KYRIELL / CRIEL / CRUEL; ENG; 1066- I'm interested in contacting anyone who is researching the above names. My family name is KERRELL and I have traced it back to various spellings including KERRILL, KIRIELL, & KYRIELL. Surname historians claim the name derives from Robertus Cruel (latin) a sub-tenant mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Robert Cryel was from a town now known as Criel Sur Mer in France. Robert was the ancestor of the "ancient and baronial" family of Criel of Kent. The direct male line is documented as having died out in the 15th century. However, the name has lived on and I'm interested in both the origins of the name as well as it's surviving forms. I have a solid family tree back to the early 19th century and a tentative tree back to the 17th. If you have traced KERRELLs back this far then let's exchange information. Please contact me via this newsgroup or via email; mailto:dave@kerrell.demon.co.uk "David Kerrell" <David.Kerrell@kerrell.demon.co.uk>
