Walter resided at Yeovil, Somerset, England from 1847. He is listed on the Census of 1871 as living with his wife and her parents at North Road, Shanklin, Isle of Wight. Walter, Eliza and their children Mary and Joseph Robert sailed from London on 1/2/1873 as free passengers on the 'Storm King', arriving in Brisbane on May 3,1873. With them were Walter's brother Silas and Eliza's sister Jane (who were also married) and their two children, Clara and Walter Adolphus. Walter and Eliza moved to Mutdapilly, Queensland where they resided from 1874 to post-1898. Walter's occupation at this time listed as Farmer. Walter moved to Ebenezer (near Ipswich) prior to his death. Walter was buried on 18/1/1930 at Mutdapilly Cemetery.
