LOVATT; ENG>Edmonton, CAN; c. 1900 Hi My two great uncles HENRY NORMAN LOVATT and JESSE LOVATT went to Edmonton around c1905 and in 1906 were running a store, Lovatt Bros of 1017 - 1019 Jasper avenue. HENRY NORMAN LOVATT died 1943. Unfortunately he had only one son who was killed along with his mother in a car accident in 1958. JESSE LOVATT died in 1929, his wife and child for some reason were back in England by then. Looking through the Edmonton directories from 1907 onwards I noticed that other familiar sounding LOVATT names were appearing. This has lead me to believe that descendants of my 2 x great uncles WILLIAM LOVATT and CHARLES LOVATT who left England for Trenton NJ in c1885 may also have ended up in Edmonton. Their names as follows William Lovatt married Ann Brassington and had the following children in Fenton S-O-T England Frances Ann Lovatt b c1872 Harriet Helen Lovatt b c 1873 William Lovatt b c 1876 Ethel Brassington Lovatt c 1877 but she died young Arthur Brassington Lovatt b c1879 Jesse Brassington Lovatt b c 1880 Sarah Brassington Lovatt b c1883 but she died young Charles Lovatt married Mary Swettenham and had the following children in Fenton S-O-T England Florence Evelyne Lovatt b c 1874 Frederick Charles Lovatt b c 1876 Harold Swettenham Lovatt b c 1878 Ethel Irene Lovatt b c 1880 Edgar William Lovatt b c 1881 Spencer Lovatt b c 1884 The NJ librarian found CHARLES and MARY LOVATT in Holboken in 1900 still with all above children plus Arthur who was born in 1891 in Hoboken. So they left England after 1884 and were in America by 1891. SHE COULDN'T FIND WILLIAM, had he gone to Edmonton. They were the brothers of my great grandfather JAMES LOVATT and I believe they ran a small pottery firm here in the Potteries before the brothers left. Could they have ended up in Edmonton like their nephews? Does anyone recognize anything Best Wishes Julie jued.lay@cableinet.co.uk

ELLISON, Bingham; ENG; 1730-1830 Seeking information on the family of my 5th great grandfather, Bingham ELLISON. All I know is that he was the grandson of the Earl of Lucan ( which one? ). I am thinking that it may be Sir Richard BINGHAM as I have seen postings that he had four daughters and Bingham ELLISON would be descended from a female line. Bingham married Maria Crampton, Maria's grandmother was Alicia TWISELTON, only daughter of Lord Say and Sele and 2nd great granddaughter of William Cecil, Earl Burghley. Amy information on this line would be appreciated! Thanks..... Biff4u@webtv.net (Biff)

James Cransto(u)n who was the chaplain or confessor to Charles I of England. I posted a note on another BB and rec'd one reply, but am looking for other sources. In return, I can provide a limited amount of info on the line of descendency of one of his sons, John Cranston, who came to the (then) colony of Rhode Island c1642, and from whom I am descended. BOWERMAN; DEV,ENG; 1750-1910 Looking for others researching Bowermans in Devon, particularly the family described below. Thomas Bowerman/Berman/Burman/Bowrman, a cabinetmaker, married Mary Atkins in Bampton, Devon, 18 Nov 1808. They had at least 8 children between 1810 and 1829, all but the last are in the records of St. Peters Church, Clayhanger, Devon: John, Thomas, William, James, James & Ann (perhaps twins), Mary, and Jane (all with different spellings of the surname). Mary Berman (as the the name appears on her marriage license in Gloucestershire and in what form she gave it as a middle name to two sons) married John Apperly (Rodborough, Glouc) 3 June 1848 in Bath; they lived in Chippenham, Wilts., for a while before immigrating to Victoria, Aus., in the 1850's. Jane Berman went with her sister and married Joseph Wells 27 Mar 1858 in Victoria. Late in life Mary Berman and John Apperly returned to England and retired to Bristol where they died by 1906. In 1910 my grandfather wrote home to his father (Mary and John's son) in Australia that he has seen "your beloved Aunt Annie." Is this Ann Bowerman/Berman? I have a copy of the Berman/Apperly marriage record from Bath; the 1851 Chippenham, Wilks, census record of the Apperly family [where Mary says she was born in Taunton, Somerset]; and the Victoria, Aus, marriage record of Jane Berman and Jos. Wells [where Jane says she was born in Clayhanger, Devon]. On the 1881 census index I found Thomas Bowerman, 68, living in Halberton, Devon, with his wife Mary. His birthplace is listed as Clayhanger, and from his age I would say he was Mary Berman/Bowerman's brother. The name Bowerman probably derives from being a house or chamber servant. Elizabeth W. LONGSTAFF; DUR,ENG>VIC,AUS; 1820-1920 I am looking for descendants of Ralph Longstaff or his siblings, born in the Wear Valley, Stanhope area, of Co. Durham, England. Ralph migrated to Victoria, Australia, ca. 1850. He was the son of John Longstaff and Phoebe Vickers, both of the Weardale area also. Have located descendants of Ralph's brother Thomas Longstaff from Weardale but would like to find others and also any descendants of Ralph, who lived to be 97 in Australia. He married Jessie Campbell from Scotland in about 1857, and they were the parents of Australia artist John Campbell Longstaff as well as many other children. There is a book on the Longstaffs of Weardale and Teesdale, done early in this century, by an Englishman named Longstaff. I do not have a copy of it, just copies of my line's pages; but it can be found in the library at the University of Durham and is on LDS film that can be ordered at your FHC under LANGSTAFF. APPERLY / APPERLEY; GLS,ENG; 1790-1850 Searching for descendants and ancestors of Apperlys who belonged to Rodborough Chapel near Stroud in Gloucestershire (Methodist) around 1800. John, born 1823, son of George and Ann (Lawrence?) who married in 1812, left the area and immigrated to Australia after 1851 with his wife and children. His father, a cloth-maker, was probably the son of John and Mary Apperly. Elizabeth W. Knowlton KnowltonEW@compuserve.com
