    3. MARSTON; ENG>Salem, MA,USA; 1615-1788 I am researching the family of Hannah MARSTON. She was born circa 1712 to James and Elizabeth MARSTON in Salem, MA. She married John PUNCHARD in Salem, MA on 22 Oct 1730. They had 10 children and Hannah MARSTON died 10 Nov 1788. Hannah's father James was born between 1662 and 1665 in Salem, MA. His father was John MARSTON, but there is some debate as to whether there were two separate John MARSTONs in Salem, MA around that time. One John MARSTON was born in 1615 and came from Ormesby, town of Yarmouth, Norfolk Co., England to Salem, MA in 1637. He married Alice EDEN on 4 Aug 1640, was a carpenter, had 10 children, and died 18 Dec 1681. The other John MARSTON was supposedly a mariner and almost nothing is known about him, making it difficult to know whether there were actually two different men by that name and, if so, which of the two is my ancestor. If you have any information which would help me to shed light on this, I would greatly appreciate the help. Please send e-mail to BarbPretz@aol.com. Thanks for your help! Barb

    2. BarbPretz
    3. MANNING; KEN,ENG>Salem, MA,USA; 1310-1618 I am researching the family of George MANNING. He was from Downe, Kent, England, the son of John MANNING and Agnes PETLEY. He married Joan WALLS on 23 Aug 1543 and died in 1583, having spent his whole life in Downe, Kent. They had a daughter Phebe MANNING who married James WATERS and had a son Richard WATERS. After the death of James, Phebe married William PLASSE and came to Salem, MA with William and her son Richard WATERS. I have just found a source ("One Waters Family") by Jeanne Waters Strong which traces this family back to Hugh MANNING (in St. Mary Cray), then John Manning, then another John MANNING (who died in 1436), then finally to a Simon MANNING who supposedly married Catherine CHAUCER, the sister of the poet Geoffrey Chaucer. I have very little information about these earlier MANNINGs so far. If you have any information about this MANNING family, please send e-mail to BarbPretz@aol.com Thanks for your help! Barb

    1. BRANDON; KEN,ENG; 1431-1490
    2. BarbPretz
    3. BRANDON; KEN,ENG; 1431-1490 I am researching the family of Margaret BRANDON. She was supposedly the daughter of Sir William BRANDON and Elizabeth WINGFIELD, born after 1431 in England. She was said to be the aunt of Charles BRANDON, the Duke of Suffolk. There were said to be two daughters named Margaret, and one of them was said to have married Hugh MANNING around 1476. She died before 1491. I am uncomfortable about this possible connection because this woman doesn't seem to be clearly named (at least in the references I have seen). In his account of St. Mary Cray, Hasted (Vol. I, P. 141) describes Hugh MANNING "who was of St. Mary Cray and married the daughter of Sir William BRANDON, knt. kinswoman to Charles, Duke of Suffolk". Apparently the Visitation pedigree of the Manning family has Hugh MANNING married to the aunt of Charles BRANDON, Duke of Suffolk, that is a daughter of Sir William BRANDON. This all seems a bit iffy to me, especially when this connection is particularly crucial to me. Does anyone happen to have any relevant information about the children of Elizabeth WINGFIELD and Sir William BRANDON? Or know of anyone else who might be able to help me pin this down? If anyone has any information or suggestions, please send e-mail to BarbPretz@aol.com. Thanks for your help! Barb

    3. ARDEN; ENG; 1400 I am researching the family of Nicholas ARDEN of Shipton in Oxfordshire, England in the 1400's. I have just started researching this line, so I know very little about this family so far. Nicholas ARDEN had a daughter who was his heiress and who has been called Joan or Alice at various times. She married James BRAMPTON and the BRAMPTONs owned a small manor in the western part of Cowdham, Kent, England. Their daughter Alice BRAMPTON married John PETLEY. If you have any information or think that there might be a connection, please send e-mail to BarbPretz@aol.com. Thanks for your help! Barb

William BACON, who married Rebecca POTTER, was from Stratton, CR, England and died in 1653 in Salem, MA. Their son Nathaniel BACON (1619-1673) married Hannah MAYO and died in Barnstable, MA. Their son Jeremiah BACON (1657-1706) married Elizabeth HOWES and lived and died in Barnstable, MA. 3. BECKLEY; ENG>HI,USA; 1770-1826 I am researching the family of a Captain George Charles Beckley who was a British seaman who sailed to Hawaii around 1804. I know a great deal about his life in Hawaii, his wife and descendents, but have had no luck at all in discovering his origins in England. He was an advisor to Kamehameha 1 and the commandant of the fort begun by the Russians in Honolulu in 1816. He was also said to have designed the Hawaiian flag. He married Ahia Kalaikumaili'eki'e, a native Hawaiian woman who was said to have been of high birth and herself a protege of King Kamehameha. They had at least 7 children. My great-great-great grandmother was the youngest child, born Emmeline Maria Guadaloupe Beckley. She was born on a sea voyage from Hawaii to the Bay of Mexico. She married George Ward Punchard on 23 July 1842. They had three children: Elizabeth Punchard born 10 June 1844 in Lahaina, Maui; George C. Webster Punchard born 1846 and Edward Punchard. Emmeline Beckley Punchard died in 1850 and George Ward Punchard died in Honolulu on 10 Oct 1852. If you have any information (especially regarding BECKLEY origins in England), please send e-mail to BarbPretz@aol.com. Thanks for your help! Barb

He was a stockfishmonger, owned the brew-house "The Lamp on the Hoop" and died after 1407. They had a son James who was born circa 1375 and married either Joan or Alice ARDEN. They had a daughter Alice BRAMPTON who was born circa 1424 in Downe, Kent, England who married John PETLEY. If you have any information, please send e-mail to BarbPretz@aol.com. Thanks for your help! 3. GOODHIND William; ENG; 1800-1888 William Goodhind was married to Ann Norman probably in the 1820's, apparently both of Devonshire. They had thirteen children, some, maybe all, born in Dartford, Kent: William, Henry, Frederick, Mary Ann, Martha, James, Richard, George, Sarah, Thomas, Alfred, Lizzie and John. Most brothers served apprenticeships in the Pheonix Mills in Dartford, then imigrated to the US (via New York Port) and settled in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Not all came at the same time. Of the 13 children, it appears only 5 of the brothers came (Henry, Frederick, James, Richard, and John). There is a story that James had a son he left behind in England, and then married again in Massachusetts. My great-grandfather was John Goodhind. I know nothing about the remaining family in England. ANY connection to the Goodhind name would be appreciated as it appears to be unusual and there may be a connection. Thanks, so much/ Cindy Palmer acmngt@javanet.com
