    3. STEEL; LND,ENG; 1841 Hello all, I was hoping for some input on some new information I have received on the STEEL side of my family tree. James STEEL, married to Mary Ann nee LESTER, had two children in 1841, daughter Emily was three years old, son George John was 9 months. They lived at Jamaica Row, Bermondsey- I am presuming this is what is now Jamaica Road? James was a corn dealer and a ropemaker. He was 40 yrs old, Mary was 35 yrs old in 1841. George John STEEL married Susannah RICHARDS, of Horseley Down, Surrey- does anyone know where this place is? George was a cellarman- does anyone have any thoughts as to how I could find out where exactly he worked, ie. which pub or hotel? George and Susannah had five children, two girls, Elizabeth and Louise?, and three boys, two of which emigrated to Australia at some point, I have no way of knowing when or which ship, as I haven't their names yet, the first-born son, Richard William STEEL, my great grandfather, was born in 1870, Lawrence Poultney Hill, London. Richard married Elizabeth DOWLEY in 1903, Camberwell. Their address at that time was 43 The Grove- I haven't been able to locate this street yet. Richard was a Brewer's Assistant, and a Merchant Seaman at some point as well. Elizabeth's father was George Blaxland DOWLEY, a fireman- how would I get a fireman's career records? I presume the name BLAXLAND was George's mother's name. In and around 1905, Richard and his family emigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where we have been since. Any help or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks, Ketti kplant@telusplanet.net

    3. TEGARDINE Mark; Wisbech, ENG > USA; 1811-1896 Researching for BIRTHPLACE & PARENTS of my gggrandfather: TEGARDINE, Mark born 1811 in England - believe County of Cambridgeshire Married HALES, Jane (dau of Henry Hales) on 25 October 1836 in Parish of Wisbech St. Mary's, County of Cambridgeshire, England. Emigrated in 1843 with wife and 2 children son Jacob Edwin and dau Lydia for USA Died 9 May 1896 in East Rockport Twp, Cuyahoga County, Ohio where he and family lived since immigration in 1843. Additional PERTINENT info: Their first child was a son named James who died at ca 1 year. Their 10th child was a boy also named James died shortly after birth in 1852. Their 11th and last child was born in 1855 and was named James also. This last James (James Edward) lived far into maturity, dying 24 June 1932 in Chicago, IL. The repeated naming of a son James leads me to believe James may have been the name of Mark's father. My research of Wisbech parish records reveals nothing. lsmith@azstarnet.com (Leo E. Smith)

Re: GOODHIND William; ENG; 1800-1888 In article <6ec026$fce@bl-4.rootsweb.com>, acmngt@javanet.com wrote: GOODHIND William; ENG; 1800-1888 William Goodhind was married to Ann Norman probably in the 1820's, apparently both of Devonshire. They had thirteen children, some, maybe all, born in Dartford, Kent: William, Henry, Frederick, Mary Ann, eMartha, James, Richard, George, Sarah, Thomas, Alfred, Lizzie and John. Most brothers served apprenticeships in the Pheonix Mills in Dartford, then imigrated to the US (via New York Port) and settled in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Not all came at the same time. Of the 13 children, it appears only 5 of the brothers came (Henry, Frederick, James, Richard, and John). There is a story that James had a son he left behind in England, and then married again in Massachusetts. My great-grandfather was John Goodhind. I know nothing about the remaining family in England. ANY connection to the Goodhind name would be appreciated as it appears to be unusual and there may be a connection. Thanks, so much/ Cindy Palmer acmngt@javanet.com Cindy I hace a forebear who married a GOODHIND in Devon. 3. YEATS; ENG; anytime My connection with the Yeats family begins in the Isle of Wight (Hampshire, South coast) in c1797 with the birth of George Yeats, a carpenter; he married a Harriet Rout (I think) in 1817 and they had three children one of whom was George Yeats (b1831). The other two children were Leonard and Harriet. George Yeats (jnr) left the Isle of Wight in the 1850s and married Rebecca Oram in 1859 in Norwood (London). They had five children - John (b 1872 and my grandfather), Louise, Frederick (b1860) , Charles (b 1875) and Rebecca. John married Lousa Huckle in 1909, Charles married Mabel Scriven in 1903. So far as I can tell, the Yeats family stayed in North London (Islington, Hornsey etc) from about 1860 to 1930. Charles had three children - Dorothy (still alive and living near Bath), May (d1990) and Douglas (d 1950). Douglas' descendants are living in South Africa. After his death, she married John MANNING who owned land in Downe, Kent, England in 1405. They had a son, named Hugh (or Hugo) MANNING born about 1436. Her husband John died in 1436. 3. FROST; ENG>Sudbury,MA,USA; 1540-1653 I am researching the family of Thomasine FROST (1600-1653/4). She was the daughter of Edward FROST (1560-1616) and Thomesine BELGRAVE (1561-1616). Edward was the son of John FROST (1540-1609) and Ann SCOTT (1538-1588). 3. GAGE; ENG>BarnstableCo, MA,USA; 1625-1897 I am researching the family of Mary (also known as Polly) GAGE. She was born in Barnstable, MA. She married Roland TAYLOR (who was born 30 Nov 1780 also in Barnstable). Mary (Polly) GAGE and Roland TAYLOR had a daughter, Phebe Thatcher TAYLOR, who was born in 1821 in South Dartmouth, MA. Phebe Thatcher TAYLOR married William Macy WILBER in 1840 and lived in New Bedford and Dartmouth, MA. They had 5 children: Maria Macy, Roland Taylor, Mary Gage, William Sanford & Charles Allen. Phebe died 5 July, 1897 in New Bedford, MA. I believe that Mary(Polly) GAGE was the daughter of Ebenezer GAGE and Jane BAKER, but I am not 100% certain of that fact. If I am correct, then I can trace her back to Thomas GAGE of Yarmouth, MA. Thomas GAGE was born circa 1625 in England and came to America sometime before 1648. He married Johanna KNIGHT before 1648 in Lynn, Essex County, MA. Johnann KNIGHT had been born circa 1627 in Rowley, Essex County, MA. They had a son Benjamin GAGE circa 1658 and the family lived for many generations in Yarmouth, Barnstable County, MA.
