BETTS; NTH,ENG; 1650-1850 All found so far in the period specified lived in Northampton and were tradespeople, pipemakers, shoemakers, etc. Early surname was BETT but this changed by mid 1700's to BETTS. William born about 1700 had Susanna, Samuel, Thomas, Mary and Anne in the 1730's. Son Thomas, a weaver, had Thomas and John in 1765 and 75 respectively. Thomas junior, also a weaver, youngest son William married a widow, Hephzi-bar Furness. Further elaboration would be tedious but suffice it to say that my branch of the family eventually left Northampton in the early 1800's but other branches remained. None to my knowledge emigrated. -- Dr John Betts [email protected] London, UK Fax 0181 245 6338
