TEVENDALE; SCT; 1700- Dear All, I am trying to locate anyone tracing any TEVENDALE family in Scotland. My g-grandfather was Alexander Tevendale BLACK. He was born in 1881 in Australia of Scots-Irish and Scots parents. It was always said that his middle name "Tevendale" was a family name from a few generations earlier. I'm trying to find that link. I've been able to trace his mother's (Ayrshire-based) family between two and five generations earlier, but haven't found TEVENDALE there. His father's side were Scots-Irish and lived for a while in Sligo, Ireland. I can trace them back two generations, but with no sign of TEVENDALE. However, then I come to a brick wall because I don't know where his grandfather James BLACK came from. I guess he would have been born in about 1812 or earlier and may have come from the area around Sligo or else from Scotland. To connect my family with a TEVENDALE family, there would have had to have been a marriage between one of the following families at or before the years shown: BLACK 1800 Ireland or Scotland GALBREATH 1800 Glasgow/Paisley McKIM 1780 Sligo (Ireland) MURDOCH 1780 Dundonald (Ayrshire) PARKER 1700 Sorn/Dundonald (Ayrshire) ROBERTSON 1800 Glasgow/Paisley RYAN 1780 Sligo (Ireland) SMITH 1750 Sorn (Ayrshire) If I were taking a guess, I'd pick the Glasgow/Clyde region for the TEVENDALE family. I figure if I gather endless data on all TEVENDALE families (and the name is not *that* common), surely I'll find the right one eventually! Anything matching in your information? They had at least four children, all baptised at St Mary's, Nottingham: Mary Ann bap 5 Aug 1821 (probably born a year earlier?) Thomas bap 13 Oct 1821 Elizabeth bap 2 Sep 1822 (my line) Martha bap 13 Jun 1824 During 1821 to 1824, Luke BESTOW worked as a cordwainer (shoemaker). HOLLINGWORTH Wilhelmina; MDX,ENG; 1805 HARRISON William; MA,USA; 1900-1950 Hi, everyone! For some years I have been unsuccessfuly searching for my 3xgreat-grandmother Wilhelmina HOLLINGWORTH who married Henry TURPIN, weaver/lacemaker, at Westminster, St Martin's in the Fields 1805. Children, all baptised there, were William (1812), Robert (1814), Phebe (1818), Sarah (1820), Frederick (1822) and Josiah (1825). It seems likely that they had earlier children, considering the date of the marriage but I haven't found any. Sarah TURPIN, married to John ELLIS, and her brother Josiah TURPIN migrated to Geelong, Victoria, Australia, in 1854. Any leads welcomed - TIA!
