    3. Re: ALLEN; DOR,ENG; 1900- Hello Owen You wrote > > Maude ALLEN was postmistress of Rossmore Post Office and general store, > Parkstone, Dorset from about 1900. Does anyone know if there are any > archive records of Post Office operators and their families? You could try the Post Office Archives in London. They certainly keep records of their own employees (eg postmen) and would seem to be the most likely source for records of postmasters/mistresses. Their address is "Post Office Archives, Freeling House, Mount Pleasant Complex, London EC1A 1BB". They would be able to tell you what records are available but I do know that they are unable to do searches so you might need to engage a professional researcher unless you are planning a UK visit yourself. In the latter case the staff at the Archives are extremely helpful and they have the usual copying facilities, drinks machines etc etc. Hope this helps. 1. CHATTERLEY; STS,ENG; c.1700
    2. JETHORNLEY
    3. CHATTERLEY; STS,ENG; c.1700 My earliest Chatterl(e)y is Richard who had several children baptised in the early 1700's. I know of several families in the Staffordshire/Stoke area, some of whom are definitely related, and I have researched some wills back to the 1500's, but there are too many gaps. Can anyone help with ANY Chatterley connections, ANYWHERE? Maybe then I could cut some of the dead wood from "my" tree, and put it back where it belongs. Any help much appreciated, Jon Thornley. jethornley@aol.com (JETHORNLEY)

    3. CHARRETT / CHAROT; HAM,ENG / DBY,ENG / FRA; C.1835 Seeking Martha Charrett/Charot. According to my grandfather the family name was Charot (my guess at the spelling from his pronunciation) and came from France to England (time unknown). Martha was (I think) baptised in Fareham, HAM (1891 census & vague reference from a source I cannot now trace) and she married(?) Robert Morton. Several children born in Sheffield WRY, or DBY vicinity c.1850 onwards. Although I can trace birth registrations I cannot find a marriage, any baptisms or even her death in civil registers (post 1897, and probably near Altrincham, CHS) According to family legend the original Charot came from Paris and was a coach/carriage builder to some notable family. There are known connections with Chatsworth House, DBY, but this may not be the link with the coach builder. Any help you may be able to give will be very much appreciated. Many thanks, Jon Thornley. jethornley@aol.com (JETHORNLEY)
