Re: OSBORNE, Charles Paul; WAR,ENG; 1850- I am tracing the name OSBORNE, Charles was born in 1850 in Birmingham, England. By 1881 he was on the Isle of Wight as a Private in the First Battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders stationed at Parkhurst. He marrried there in March, 1883 to a Maryann PERKS also of the Birmingham area. In 1884 a son Charles Herbert was born. In 1885 he was a Corporal in the Highlanders, now at Fort George, Arderiser, Inverness, Scotland, there a second son was born Joseph Thomas. A daughter was born at a later time, date unknown. By 1918 at the time of his second sons marrriage he was already deceased. Does this name or information seem formiliar to anyone ? I am unable to find at this time anything about his military record, with out having some one do an in person search in the records office for me. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, L. Osborne/Cynowa LCynowa <LCynowa@aol.com>

DICKMAN; Ampney Crucis,Minchinhampton, GLS,ENG; -1830 Hi Anyone interested in the above. My connections left Ampney Crucis for Minchinhampton in the 17th century, and Minchinhampton for South Wales in the early 19th century. Clive clive@whelan.prestel.co.uk
KERRELL / KERRILL / KIRIELL / KYRIELL / CRIEL / CRUEL; ENG; 1066- I'm interested in contacting anyone who is researching the above names. My family name is KERRELL and I have traced it back to various spellings including KERRILL, KIRIELL, & KYRIELL. Surname historians claim the name derives from Robertus Cruel (latin) a sub-tenant mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Robert Cryel was from a town now known as Criel Sur Mer in France. Robert was the ancestor of the "ancient and baronial" family of Criel of Kent. The direct male line is documented as having died out in the 15th century. However, the name has lived on and I'm interested in both the origins of the name as well as it's surviving forms. I have a solid family tree back to the early 19th century and a tentative tree back to the 17th. If you have traced KERRELLs back this far then let's exchange information. Please contact me via this newsgroup or via email; mailto:dave@kerrell.demon.co.uk "David Kerrell" <David.Kerrell@kerrell.demon.co.uk>

I know your roots are in Lancashire County, but some of my ancestors seem to have moved around alot. I only just recently discovered my g-g-g-grandfather Francis BEWLEY married an Anne RUDD in Saint Mary, Carlisle, Cumberland, UK on June 1, 1840. Anne RUDD was supposedly born in cir. 1821 in Penrith, Cumberland, UK. Does this connect with your tree? Juanita Roussel Ottawa, Canada "Alain J. Roussel" <ajr@magma.ca>

RANKIN; ENG; 1900-1950 I'm trying to find the family of Kenneth S. RANKIN. He was born in 1916, as we recall, in London. He lived in France during 1928-1936 approximately (and has a half-brother born in rural France in about 1935). He has at least one sibling: a sister; I don't know whether she's older or younger. He emigrated to the US in about 1964, and was last known to be working in Virginia in 1988. Michael B.
