DELGER; Oldenburg,DEU; 1572- I am looking for descendants of the Delger family of Nordloh-Apen, Duchy (Hertzogtum) of Oldenburg, now Niedersaschsen, Germany. This is very near the Dutch/German border. I have quite a bit of info on the ancestors and descendants of Arendt/Arnold Delger, who came to Ohio in 1844, then in 1856 to Minnesota with 2 sons and at least one nephew: August Arnold, Conrad H., and Conrad A.B. According to family lore, there were other Delgers who came in the 1840's and 1850's, and spread across the Dakotas and Montana. I understand there are lot of Delger families in Holland. The name seems to have originated somewhere in the region between Groningen and Oldenburg, and I have never been able to find out its derivation. I also am curious: how do the various families pronounce the name "Delger"? With a hard German "G" like in the English word "Girl" or a soft "J" sound like in "Giraffe"? "Jane Donaho" <[email protected]>
