Re: BEARD Archibald; DE,USA / PA,USA; c. 1740 We are looking for Archibald BEARD (later: BARD) who came over from Ireland (possibly from the Antrim area), to the Delaware and PA areas of the USA about 1740. Ship is unknown. He may have traveled with the HAMILTONs, POEs, or POTTERs. It is believed, but unsubstantiated, that his fathers name was David BEARD, and his grandfathers name was William BEARD. Archibald BEARD (BARD)s wifes name is unknown; she may have been a POE or a POTTER. He died in 1765. He had three sons: Richard BARD, William BARD, and Rev. David BARD, and an unknown daughter who died young. In the early days in the USA the name was often written BAIRD, BEARD, and/or BARD. Some occupations in this family were: farmers, millers, surveyors, politicans, and ministers. We have not found, to date, one single reference to Archibald BEARD (BARD) in Irish records. Can you find him? We are offering a small reward to anyone who comes up with our Archibald BEARD in Irish or Scottish records. Any information, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, P.S.: We will soon have available; THE BARD FAMILY by G. O.Seilhamer, 507 pages, 1908 on inexpensive CD-ROM. (Extensive BAIRD, BARD & BEARD genealogy.)
