Re: HEARN; HAM,ENG; 1812 Hi Gordon, I have been searching for birthplace and family members of my gGrandfather, Robert HURN, b. May 1, 1827. Robert HURN was taken to South Africa as an Orphan or Home Child at the age of 13yrs. (abt. 1839/40). We believe that he was from the Bournemouth or Hurn Parish area (all part of Hampshire back then). He had two sisters (or aunts?), named Elizabeth and Ann. It is possible that he was born elsewhere. We also believe that his ancestors were (at some time) from Scotland before migrating to England. What really hampers my search is that I've seen our Surname(s) entered with as many as four different spellings in various parish registers - all on the same family!. As a result, I have collected many HEARN entries in my records including the other variants. I have also been in contact and exchanged information with 3 other HEARN researchers. The HEARN name is of much interest as there are HEARN, HEARNS & HERNE families who emigrated to South Africa in the 1800's. I have recently viewed films at the LDS on the Bishops Transcripts for St. James at POOLE. The records for Hampshire are all housed at the PRO at TROWBRIGDE, WILTSHIRE. I believe that they also have the records for St. Mary's. I will go through my HEARN listings and see if I can find your Mary Ann and will also contact the other HEARN researches re your posting. Do you have anything else on Mary Ann HEARN?. Guess you should first try and find Lionel GOODRAM?. Have you searched in Suffolk?. Marriages usually took place in the Bride's home town - it's possible that she moved to Suffolk with her husband.(?)
