HAMMERSCHMIDT / HAMMERSCHMITT; DEU>PA,USA; 1881 Hello all; Looking for information on George and Margaretha (ne. Gerhart) Hammerschmidt. They were born in Germany in 1854 and 1857. They came to the USA to the Port of New York in 1881 and settled in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. I have been told that George was in the German Navy before coming to the states and that Margaretha was a maid for the Hammerschmidt's in Germany. I have a letter stating that a cousin of George's , Kathe Hammerschmitt married a Glassner and lived in Biebrich, Germany. I guess I can assume that the Hammerschmidt was taken when they got to the states. Any information on the Hammerschmitt or Hammerschmidt name would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
