ROWLEY James Frederick / MCELROY Mary; IRL > Port Phillip, AUS; 1800-1921 Dear Friends Searching for information on James Frederick Rowley from Ireland, (and others) born c1829 (1831?) and his wife Mary McElroy (McIlroy?) born c1833. Son of Samuel Osborn Rowley, baker, and Elizabeth Dobson. Religion Catholic. Left Ireland during Potato Famine for Australia via Portsmouth as an assisted immigrant on the "General Palmer", arrived Port Phillip (now Melbourne) on 10 April 1849. James & Mary married c1857 Penola and lived in Penola South Australia for fifteen years then Casterton Victoria for eight years before his death in 15 August 1874. James might have been buried as John James Rowley / James Patrick Rowley / James Frederick Rowley at Casterton Old or Casterton New Cemetery. Produced ten children about seven of whom lived. Mary remarried James Thom around 1875. They produced another four children. Mary died in 1921 in Casterton. One of James and Mary's sons was Anthony Rowley born 1865, married Rosannah (Rose Anna?) Tuite. Moved to Geelong. They produced several children (I believe), one of whom was Percy David Rowley b March 1893, shellshocked at Gallipoli, and unknown date of death (disappeared). Would seriously love to know where and when he died as my father never knew thisv when he was alive. Percy may have had a brother, John Rowley, possibly a butcher in Geelong, died c1959, buried with his wife who died in childbirth in 1913. Anthony and Rosannah both died 1936, buried in Geelong. My connection is the following. My father was John Gerald Frederick Rowley, son of Percy David Rowley, son of Anthony Rowley, son of James Frederick Rowley, son of Samuel Osborn Rowley. Best regards.
