MORRISON Charles; Walmer, KEN,ENG; 1819 Researching back from Charles MORRISON, born at Walmer Kent 1819, I appear to have come up against a break. I have the certificate for his marriage to Amelia Aldham (father George Aldham, farmer) on 7 July 1843 at St Mary's Church, Walmer, Kent. This certificate describes him as <Boatman> and his father, Douglas MORRISON as <Quartermaster>. Amelia was shown in the 1861 census as living at Back Way of Strand, Walmer, aged 39 and born at Thorington Sfk, East of Southwold and some four miles from the coast. I have not, so far, been able to locate Douglas Morrison, who is held in family lore as having been born in Aberdeen and worked on ships (presumably on coastwise shipping). Would the description Quartermaster relate to such work and could anyone suggest how I could trace the ship/s concerned. The choice of Charles' bride and the eventual move to Walmer would suggest a vessel trading along the East coast to Deal/Walmer. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. -- John Carey researching Goman & Lewis in Bristol 1800, Beckford in Cookham area, 1800 and Major & Stone in Bridport, 1800.
