SILLETT; Suffolk ENG; 1750-1850 HEADLINE: Searching for James Sillett early 1800s, St. Cross South Elmham, Suffolk. I am searching for more information regarding my ancestor James Sillett who was the father of my great-great grandfather Robert Daines, born 3 Aug 1829 in South Elmham, St. Cross, Suffolk. Robert's mother was Lydia Daines. James Sillett and Lydia Daines had another child, George Daines, christened in the same parish on 18 July 1827. George died 15 Aug 1830. Because Robert was born out of wedlock and emigrated to the US, the information we have is sketchy. According to family tradition, James Sillett was either married at the time George and Robert were born, or he married subsequently. He may be the husband of Sophia Woolnough - there is an 1828 marriage record for them in nearby Alburgh, Norfolk, and there are christening records for several of their children in South Elmham, St. Cross. According to family legend, Lydia Daines was a servant in James's home. She subsequently married Nathaniel Wilkinson in 1831 with whom she had nine children. The Wilkinsons converted to the LDS Church and emigrated to the US in the 1850s, as did Robert Daines and his wife Mary. They settled in Hyde Park, Cache County, Utah. There are two possible candidates from the LDS data bases for my James Sillett. One was christened in Cratfield, Suffolk 1 Mar 1795, the son of John Sillett and Ann Huggins. The other was born 22 Apr 1802 in Alburgh, Norfolk, the son of James Sillett and Martha Long. In the LDS data bases, these data are garbled, and it appears that Robert's children were not sure of the details when they submitted the information to the Church over the last 100 years. Hopefully the tools now exist to narrow down the search and climb up - and down - the family tree of this enigmatic ancestor. Do you have any information, advice, etc?
