SCALES married Barbara Emily JOHNSON, daughter of JOHNSON and Barbara MCKECHNIE) surnames, so am trying a different route. Below is census data which has in-law relations under #2 with the surname FELTIS. Are there any FELTIS researchers with more? Dec 1865 Canada Eng; m. 4 yrs; his father Ireland, mother NY; immigrated 1888; owned farm w/o mortgage. Wife Margaret [FELTIS?] b Aug 1876 Canada (Engl) as were both of her parents; immigrated 1879. Had 2 of 2 children living. Children Elmer b. Dec 1892 MI (from previous marriage?), Effie b. Oct 1897 MI; Mary E. b. Apr 1900 MI. Also in same household was Mary FELTIS, b. Mar 1881 MI, sister-in-law. 3) Emeline SCALES, living alone, b. Dec 1827 PA, 5 of 9 children living; her father born MA, mother Canada, owned farm w/o mortgage. 4) Charles Stratton b. Mar 1868 MI, married 10 years; parents b. VT and PA; owned farm with a mortgage. Wife Cora J. b. Feb 1866 MI, 2 of 2 children living, parents both NY. Children Emil H. b. Jun 1891 MI and Edwin A. b. Apr 1893 MI. 5) Charles SCALES b. Sept 1870 Canada (Eng), father Ireland, mother NY. Immigrated 1888; owned farm w/o mortgage. Married 9 years to Laura b. Sept 1872, 1 of 1 child living; father b. PA and mother Canada (English); son Clarence b. May 1892 MI [According to SSDI, May 19, 1892, d. July 1984; residence Pickford, Chippewa, MI] Am considering Joseph, Alexander, and Charles brothers due to their parents' having the same birth places, even tho the 'brothers' did not all immigrate together. Thinking Emeline is an aunt or even grandmother.
