    3. You may have noticed recent problems posting to the SURNAMES-*@rootsweb.com mailing lists and the linked soc.genealogy.surnames.* newsgroups. The SURNAMES@rootsweb.com address that we normally advertise is temporarily out of service. Messages sent to this address seem to be lost without any notice to the sender. This may also be true of the other SURNAMES-* list addresses. You can still post by sending your queries to soc-genealogy-surnames-global@rootsweb.com which is another address for the automoderator. Also be sure not to include any attachments to your posts. Queries with html attachments are also being lost with no notice to the sender. See http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm for instructions on turning off HTML in most of the popular mail programs, or ask your ISP's technical support line for help. I don't know whether the missing messages are lost for good, or if they'll be processed when the problem is fixed. I apologize for the inconvenience. 3. HUDDLESTONE Ferdinand; ENG>CAN; c. 1910 I am looking for the date, port and ship which took Ferdinand Huddlestone to Canada sometime between 1900 and 1914. It is said that he was a stowaway and as such is not listed among the Canadian register of Home Children. However, his brother, Sidney is listed and he sailed from Liverpool on the "Tunisian" on 4th. June 1909 bound for Quebec and then Ottawa. Any help in locating the travel details of Ferdinand Huddlestone would be greatly appreciated. Tony Reed reed@roundlands.freeserve.co.uk

    3. PAGE George; LEI,ENG > NTH,ENG; 1880-1890 Help I am stuck my great Grandfather George PAGE was rumoured to come from Leicestershire / Northampton area prior to settling in Leeds and having a family. His profession was Boot Finisher. I Don't know his age, the only info I have is from birth certificates. It appears that he was married to an Alice DIXON but Leeds Register Office can't find a record of a marriage between her eldest illigitimate child in dec 1887 and the eldest legitimate child born in may 1892. He was in Leeds between 1892 and 1904 but then promptly drops out of the electoral rolls .One of my cousins has searched the St Catherine's indexes but couldn't see a marriage... Does any body recognize this Errant character from their researches who was reported to have been booted out of Leicestershire for drinking the place dry ???? 3. BAKER; KEN,ENG; 1700-1850 We are trying to trace the BAKER family, who lived in the Edenbridge area of Kent in the 18th century. We have got back to Ambrose Baker who married Ann Killick on 28th July 1751 in Crouch House Green, near Edenbridge, Kent. Their (known) children were Sarah, Anne, Elizabeth and Henry. We have found an Ambrose born in Richmond , Surrey, but we do not know of any connection as yet. Any ideas for finding Ambrose's birth please, would be welcome, or we would be glad to hear from fellow researchers. Cheers, Peter Byford "Peter Byford" <pgb@bcs.org.uk>

    3. BERGIN; KIK,IRL; 1850-1900 We are trying to trace the ancestors of my wife's grandmother, Annie Bergin, who was born in Ballysaggarts, in Ireland (we believe in Kilkenny). It looks as if Ballysaggarts is in fact Ballyragget, unless soomeone has an alternative suggestion. She emigrated to England with her sister Sarah and was working at 156, Strand (as a servant) when she married John Baker in 1881 at Strand Reg, Office. The family were Catholic. Annie's father was Joseph Bergin, who we believe died before 1881 - we do not know whether he emigrated. Does anyone know of a Joseph Bergin born in early-mid 1800s in the Kilkenny area? Any ideas for finding Joseph, Annie or Sarah's birth and/or family would be welcome. Cheers, Peter Byford "Peter Byford" <pgb@bcs.org.uk>

    1. ELLIOTT Henry & William; Newcastle, NBL,ENG > AUS; 1918-
    2. Christopher Morgan
    3. ELLIOTT Henry & William; Newcastle, NBL,ENG > AUS; 1918- Alderman Christopher Charlton ELLIOTT died in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland 29.11.1918. Absent from his funeral were sons Henry and William, both still on active service in the British Army. Later, they emigrated to Australia and/or New Zealand. Contact with their families has been lost. C C Elliott married Mary BOLTON and operated a grocers shop on Scotswood Road, Newcastle. He was active in the Presbyterian church, and was appointed an Alderman after many years service as a Councillor. He was also President of the Newcastle, Gateshead & District Grocers and Provision Dealers Association. Younger daughter Ada Jane (1887-1964) was a member of the Sheffield Choir which made a round the world Empire Tour from March - October 1911 led by Sir Henry Coward, including Fiji, New Zealand and Australia. (Her copious diary, many postcards, and many other souvenirs survive.) Other children were Frances Annie (1879-1970), Christopher Charlton (1882-1946), Henry (1884-?) and William (1891-?). In 1918 Henry was known to have been a Sergeant Major, and William a Private. It is thought that Henry went to Australia, and William to New Zealand - but it could have been the other way round, and either or both might have moved on! Perhaps they were impressed with stories told by their sister? She certainly had many tales to tell. Can anybody provide any leads to follow this couple and their supposed families? The family links already known will be happily shared. Chris Morgan "Christopher Morgan" <ChrisMorgan@evnet.co.uk>

    3. LUTH; DEU; 1800-1950 I am researching all the names in the list below. They are all linked mainly by family documents I have in my own possession dating back to about the 1870s. But it is not always clear what some of the relationships are. Clearly, some of the names are very common in their own countries, so what I am looking for are some positive means of identifying the links between them. If anyone can help, I shall be most grateful. As far as I can tell, there are three separate and independent links between England and Germany.
