I have seen BARRETTs in Mellis Suffolk PRS between 1720ish and 1811(as far as the LDS film goes). I'm not studying them but they keep getting confused with my BENNETTS!! Fortunately the BENNETT which married the BARRETT was not a direct ancestor of mine. Don't know if they would be connected. Edward was born about 1785 and his first two children, Mary and Cathrine I think were born Ireland too. JOYCE; MA,USA; 1870-1900 In the process of tracing my family, I have come across some information that might be useful to other people. These Joyce's are not part of my ancestors. 1) In the U.S. 1870 census for Pittsfield, Mass. there is a Thomas Joyce, age 36, born in Ireland and his wife Maria, age 32, born in Ireland. They are listed with 3 children all born in Mass.: Anna, age 5; William, age 3; and John, age 1. They are also on the 1880 census for Pittsfield but by that time have had 4 more children: Edward, 8 in 1880; Margaret, 5 in 1880; Elizabeth, 3 in 1880; and Thomas born Nov. 1879. They were also listed in the 1900 census. Thomas was 59 and his wife, whose name was now listed as Mary, was 54. Mary was born in June 1845 in Ireland. The children still at home were Annie, b. May 1867, Edward, b. July 1873, Margaret, b. Nov. 1875, and Elizabeth, b. June 1877. 2) In the U.S. 1870 census for Lawrence, Mass. there is a Thomas Joice, age 40, born in Ireland and his wife Mary, age 40, born in Ireland. Listed with them is their 6 month old baby, Edmund, born in Mass. 6) In the U.S. 1900 census for Boston, Mass. there is a Thomas Joyce, born in Ireland Jan. 1852, and came to U.S. in 1896. He was working as a day laborer and boarded with the Thomas Ridge family. Hope this information is useful to someone.
