John, I think, may have been born to William BLACK & Mary COOK in Ordsall, and baptised there on 28 Sep 1782. But, who was Mary? When and where did they marry? Did they have any other children before or after the appear in the Walesby parish records? I can't find them in the Notts FHS marriage indexes, the IGI, or the LDS Vital Records CD. I haven't find any more children of John & Mary BLACK in the right time frame. Daughter Mary married John MORRITT in Blythe in 1833, and her father was living with her in Barnby Moor according to the 1841 & 1851 censuses. Thomas (my g-g-grandfather) turned up in Sheffield in 1839 and he's relatively plain sailing from there - I have his marriage to Sarah BRADSHAW, the births of their children, Sarah's early death, and records of Thomas through the 1851-81 censuses. It seems my family has been confused for many years on the family's origin. When I began my research I was told that RICHARD (my great grandfather) came to the US from UK, but was born in Ireland, then I was told he came directly from Ireland, and now there is some talk about Wales. The information I have is very limited at this point. Names of children: RICHARD, JAMES, MARTIN, DAVID, ELIZABETH and MICHAEL LEO Michael Leo was my grandfather - he was born in 1901- (again, I have conflicting information - SSDI shows his DOB as Sept 1st and his work records show his DOB as Sept 30) His children always believed he was born in NYC - but vital records has no record of his birth). I am certain of a few details - His mother threw him out of the house at around age 17 and he never visited with his parents again. But, where that house was is now a mystery. He was a NYC Police officer from 1928 to 1946, He died in 1972. His wife (my grandmother ) was LORETTA MARIE KELLY. She was born July 8, 1903 in Brooklyn, NY. STRONG Caroline; UK; c. 1850-1900 I'm trying to find out about this lady who owned a book (Flowers of the Field) in which she made numerous entries of where and on what date each plant was seen. She appears to have been based mainly along the south coast - between Bognor and westwards to Cornwall but also there are many entries for a place called Killeaden in Ireland.
