    3. OVERIN George Davis / OVERING, George Davis; ENG > NY,USA; 1760-1800 Hi. I am new to this list. I have an ancestor who came from England named George Davis OVERIN(G) , he was born abt. 1760-1780. (his name could've also been OVERINGE, OVERINGTON, etc. having dropped the "e", or "ton" after arriving in the U.S.A.) George and his wife, Catherine/Catherina COURTNEY (born abt. 1775 or after) were married in 1802 in Albany, New York. Their 1st child, Samuel OVERIN (G) was christened in a Lutheran Church in 1803, Albany, New York. The next child George Paterson OVERIN(G) born in 1804 was not. We have not been able to find any other records on George or Catherina after the birth of their two sons. His 2nd son's death certificate said he was born in England. We don't know where, but we are confident of finding records since there are/ were very few Lutheran Churches in England. Family members with the same surname, time period and region were also Lutheran. However we also have to be open to the possiblity he converted to his wife's religion. (My father started this search 20 yrs. ago, and gave up frustrated.) I am curious to hear from any of you researching any of the various "OVER" names since they are uncommon. I have seen these various names in England and Germany. I am not sure where to go at this point and would appreciate any ideas, suggestions and or help from any of you on this list. If any of you are researching OVERIN/OVERING I have information on the descendants of George and Catherina OVERIN(G).
