DURKIN, Edward; IRL>USA; C. 1845 Seeking information on the DURKIN (DURKAN, DIRKIN, DURKEN, etc.) Family. My great grandfather Edward DURKIN was born about 1816 in either Mayo or Sligo to John and Sarah DURKIN. Edward married Mary MALEA (MALEY, MALIA, MALLEY, etc.) who was born about 1825 in either Mayo or Sligo. They were married on 15 Sept 1847 in Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA. Mary's parents were John and Bridget MALEA. Edward and Mary moved to Shamokin, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania in the early 1850's where my grandfather Martin DURKIN was born on 6 DEC 1853. He had at least one other sibbling - Sarah DURKIN KANE. My grandfather married Catherine DRUMHEISER in Shamokin on 23 June 1880. They had 12 children, all born in Shamokin. I'm trying to locate any information that might lead me to the town or parish in Ireland where my great grandparents came from. I've struck out in trying to find naturalization papers and passenger lists that could lead me to the right place. Any help would be most appreciated. THANK YOU in advance. DEARLOVE; ENG>MO,USA; 1870 John Dearlove was born about 1840 or 41 in England, maybe yorkshire. He was unmarried when he came to Madison County, MO, USA. He is shown in the 1880 census married to a Nancy from Illinois, and he has four children by this time, all born in the US. The first was Robert, born in 1870, followed by John, George, Thomas, and Nancy.Any Dearlove information would help. LDS records have a couple of possible candidates for the correct John and I have found a John in Yorkshire in several census' that would fit, but I need more confirmation. I also need to find out what happened to the rest of this family. I know what happened only the child John, but Robert, George, Thomas, and Nancy are a mystery to me. sharona@fyiowa.infi.net

THOMAS John R / PEATON Elizabeth; VA,USA; 1798-1846 I am looking for information that would help me find the ancestors and siblings of John R. Thomas, who married Elizabeth Peaton in Norfolk Co., VA January 3, 1826. According to the property tax records of Botetourt County, he was a poor laborer, who was doing well to own as many as 3 horses. He never owned land and died 1842. Elizabeth died in 1846. It appears that he served in the 48th Virginia Militia during the War of 1812. I do not know what the "R" in his name was for. A few records also record him as "John Lapps Thomas". We found one property tax record that included both names. Their son, Nathaniel Grigsby Thomas, was born in 1827 or 1828, was a Confederate private in the War between the States, and died in 1865.
