KOLLHOFF; Berlin, DEU; 1999 My husband and I were recently in Berlin, Germany, and found several KOLLHOFFs in the phone book. We had a photocopy made of the page with those names, but as near as I can tell, there are no addresses. Or perhaps I have an address and don't recognize it. An example is: Landshuter - 26. Can someone tell me what this means? If it is not an address, is there a way to find addresses for those persons listed? Thank you very much for any help you can give. KOLLHOFF, Henry / HAGEN, Wilhelmina; Altentraptow? DEU; c 1870 I am looking for a possible Port of Departure for Henry KOLLHOFF who came to the U.S.A. ca 1870, with his wife, Wilhelmina, and a daughter/step-daughter, Wilhelmina HAGEN. The only German town name we have is Traptow, which I believe is now Altentraptow. Could someone tell me how I could write to that town - and to whom I would address a letter - requesting info about this family? Is there a site on Internet that gives names of ships passenger lists from the Port of Departure? We know they lived in Bergan County, NJ, when they first arrived, so I'm guessing that they arrived in NY. Thank you very much for any help you can give. Barbara Kollhoff bkoll@midusa.net

Re: HABICHT; Wettges, DEU; 1849-1884 Norman: If you are sure about the town name of Wettges being correct then write to: Evangelische or Katholische Kirchengemeinde Wettges Wettges - Baden Wuerttenberg Germany if you are not sure about the town or its correct spelling, consult German maps to find out. The Black Forest area is in Baden-Wuerttenberg. Address your letter to the minister(Herr Pfarrer) and ask him to check the birth and marriage and death registry for Heinrich Habicht. Most ministers will oblige. Good Luck Roger M. Eckoldt(Dartmouth,Nova Scotia) ~ Normal wrote: > HABICHT; Wettges, DEU; 1849-1884 > > Hi, list! I've tried this before but it's been a while. Re: SETTLER Sarah; DEU > Baltimore, MD,USA; 1861 Susan, I apologize for posting this on the open forum, but I could not get thru on you personal address, norlight.net kept kicking it back! Take care, Bob Nestruck Hi Susan, Thanks so much for your information on the name Settler! I did not give a specific site in Germany because, as of yet, I do not know what city to specify. Your list of names has a familiar ring. Sarah and her husband Johann Böhnlein had 6 children. I have 5 baptismal records with 5 different spellings for Sarah's last name. In fact, on one, the Priest nearly failed to record her name. He left a scribble where her last name should have been. I have Sittler, Sidly, Sitzler and only on my Grandmother's record was the name Sarah Settler recorded. I failed to get a copy of the last record. I'll pick it up next time I am at the archives, but I remember her name being recorded as Cecelia Sidnez! I think the priest was trying to fill out the baptismal record from memory. My Great-Grandfather was Catholic, but Sarah was not, so he probably thought it did not matter. The Czech/Austria/Hungary angle is interesting. On Sarah's deather certificate her oldest son, as informant, gave her father's first name as Alex. This didn't sound like a traditional German name, so it sounds like that might be the area to check into. If I can pry a little. Could you tell me what religion your Grandfather's first wife was? I am trying to trace thru Church records, because we lost a lot of civil records in 1904..Most of downtown Baltimore burned to the ground, including City Hall. So we are having trouble getting Birth Certificates and the like. I certainly will share with you any info I find. I will add you into my address book with the reminder of Settler. Take care, Thanks again! Bob Nestruck Bnestruck@aol.com
