    2. VEALE / VEELE; ENG>IRL>USA; 1690-1700 My fellow researchers and I have been trying for years to trace the VEALE family back to Ireland with no luck. Does anyone have suggestions or the titles of books that would help us? Thank you. Lynda Veal The Veale family originated in Ireland from Scot-Irish ancestry and many of them came to the U.S. through England. The Veale family was in Essex County, VA as early as 1693. Tax records on property in Henry County, VA for 1779 and 1780 show that Nathan Veal was a resident & property owner. The "e" was dropped from the name; however, records do not state when. It is estimated that over half the Veales living today are descended from these five: 1. Vielles (Veielly) of Pontandemer, Normandy, c.990 2. Veel of Tortworth, Gloucestershire, 1195-present 3. Veale of St. Stephens-by-Launceston, Cornwall, 1570- 4. Veale of St. Columb Major, Cornwall, 1660-present 5. Veale of Trevayler, Gulval, Cornwall, 1585-1867 Descendants of Morris/Maurice Veale, Sr Generation No. 1 1. Settled in Westmoreland Co, [2] VA--200 acres of this property is now a part of the George Washington Birthplace in Wakefield, VA. 9/22/97 Robert L "Bob" Veale letter: Morris/Maurice probably came to the Colonies from Haddington, Scotland thru England along w/William (m Margaret); John (m Susan Rushton); and Elizabeth (m Edmund Adget). It is not proven, but the aforementioned Veales are thought to be siblings. [4] Will of Morris Vele of Prince William Co, VA 1750 - from the Carl W. He was born Bef. 1730 in Prince William Co, VA. Child of SUSANNAH VEALE and UNKNOWN CARTER is: i. ELIZABETH5 CARTER, b. Bef. 1750, Prince William Co, VA. Notes for ELIZABETH CARTER: Named grandaughter in will of Morris Veale, 9/7/1750.. 7. CARNABY4 VEALE (MORRIS M3, MORRIS/MAURICE2, UNKNOWN1) was born 1724 in Amhearst Co, VA, and died Abt. 1800 in Amhearst Co, VA. He married MRS CARNABY (UNKNOWN) VEALE. The speculations of CARNABY VEALE & wife Unknown are: 1. He is the father of Mary Veale (proven), Nathan Veal Sr., of Washington Co., GA, James Veal b. 1779, m. Mary "Polly" Albright, James Carr Veale Sr. who married Lavina Townsend (my heritage), Francis Veal, who's daughter, Rebecca, m. William Veal Sr. the son of Nathan Veal Sr., Sarah Veale, the sister of my James C. Veale Sr., and Morris Veal, also suspected of being the father of James Veal who married Mary "Polly" Albright. 2. Should Morris Veale be the one who had a son named James Veal who married Mary "Polly" Albright, things would be a lot simpler in deciding some of the missing parents of our kinfolk and remove a lot of the puzzle pieces. NOTE: Recent finds has allowed us to narrow down some of the Maurice & Morris' in the Veal/Veale CLAN. 3. Morris Veale, the 4th son of William Veale Sr. who married Lydia Turley, Carnaby's brother is not listed in the will of William Sr. but is listed in the William Veale Sr. & Thomas Ludwell Lee leases of 1770. For this Morris to be the father of James Veal who married Mary "Polly" Albright, is likely not possible, as he was b. 1764 and would have been 15- 16 years old, possible but not likely. 4. If Carnaby didn't have a son named Morris it leaves only one known Morris to be in the right age group to father James Veal. Morris Jr. who married Sarah had a brother names John Veale Sr. who married Deliverence Carnaby (?). This Morris was a minor in the will of his father in 1718 and has been proven to not of having any heirs as late as 1748, he too would be a possibility of being this James Veal's father. It is my firm belief that if the families of the sons of MorrisVeale Jr. & Sarah, ie. William Veale Sr. & Carnaby Veale. the whole delema of many missing parents can be resolved. This family appears to be the big key. In the past few weeks more infromation has been found, with a lot of good help from many hard working researchers which has almost putting Carnaby's brother, William Veale Sr.'s family together, I'm certain that once this is done the family of Carnaby will be much easier. Sometime between the end of the Revolutionary War and 1785, Nathan moved to Amherst Co, VA. He was listed on the Virginia Tax Payers 1782-1787 Head of Families--Virginia 1785 Amherst County, VA as head of household with five white souls. Carnaby Veal was also listed with 4 white souls. This leads one to believe that he was brother to Nathan Veal, Sr. Settled on Buffalo Creek in Washington Co & eventually owned 740 acres of land on Buffalo Creek & 150 acres in Deepstep. After 1790 Nathan moved to Spartanburg, SC for a brief time, then to Hancock Co, GA, where he is listed in 1805 GA Land Lottery Hancock County, GA Hancock Bk. 3. NEARMAN / GAJEWSKI / KLIMASZEWSKI; OH,USA; 1889-1960 I am searching for information on my husband's grandfather. We have hardly any information on him. His name was Anthony Gajewski (changed to Nearman) and he was probably born around 1889. He was from Buchtel, OH, a coal miner, and moved to Michigan with his wife, Anna Klimaszewski (sometimes called Sheskey) and 3 children. He disappeared and we suspect he may have returned to OH and died there, possibly around the 1950's. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. Kathy Czuba (gkczuba@concentric.net)

    2. SPIES John; Maryland, DEU>USA; 1835 I am searching for SPIES & (BENNER) Arrival in the USA 1830s. My Great, Great Grandfather John SPIES, b 1 AUG 1813 in North Germany (Prussia) or Darmstadt. He married Wilhelmina BENNER, b 20 FEB 1819 from Hess Darmstadt, Germany. I do not know where they were married. I have not been able to find their marriage in Maryland. I doubt very much that Wilhelmina BENNER came to the USA alone. She most likely came with a brother or sister or with John SPIES. I have the will of John Spies, dated the 12 Mar 1875, in Harford County, Maryland, also the naturalization for him and it only states that he was a subject of the King of Prussia. I believe Louis William Spies (b) 1814, wife Eva MNU (b) 1824, both born in GERMANY, is the brother of John. Since John and Wilhelmina's son Charles married his first cousin Sophia and her parents and sister lived in their household in Maryland. If anyone has any information on this family, it would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Carol Chiveral CLChiveral@aol.com

    3. ROWAN; ENG>WLS>IRL>USA; 1850-1950 I am seeking any information on RICHARD ROWAN - Approx. date of birth 1870-1875. Wife's name unknown. It seems my family has been confused for many years on the family's origin. When I began my research I was told that RICHARD (my great grandfather) came to the US from UK, but was born in Ireland, then I was told he came directly from Ireland, and now there is some talk about Wales. The information I have is very limited at this point. Names of children: RICHARD, JAMES, MARTIN, DAVID, ELIZABETH and MICHAEL LEO Michael Leo was my grandfather - he was born in 1901- (again, I have conflicting information - SSDI shows his DOB as Sept 1st and his work records show his DOB as Sept 30) His children always believed he was born in NYC - but vital records has no record of his birth). I am certain of a few details - His mother threw him out of the house at around age 17 and he never visited with his parents again. But, where that house was is now a mystery. He was a NYC Police officer from 1928 to 1946, He died in 1972. His wife (my grandmother ) was LORETTA MARIE KELLY. She was born July 8, 1903 in Brooklyn, NY. He parents names were WILLIAM J KELLY and MARY A COUGHLIN. They were married around 1923. Re: SYKES James; ENG; c. 1858 Hi Ron, Just some information told to me by a family member whose relative at age 10 was a working cabin boy on a sailing ship out of Bristol, England, about the 1890. The sailing ship transported prisoners to Botany Bay and the round trip took 7 months. Suggestion: maybe your relative was working on the ship and perhaps if you look for his family in 1857 in the Liverpool area you might find them. Good luck and hope some part of this is of help.
